Most colleges and universities value a student who has community service hours because this activity provides students a chance to develop leadership skills and to interact with others from diverse backgrounds. Most colleges and universities look for students that have volunteered at least 100 hours in the four years of high school. Community service can be volunteer work completed at a local religious center, library, animal shelter, school, nursing home, hospital, food pantry, and other entities serving the community. Community service should be documented
as you complete your hours.
