It’s been another great week at Westview! We appreciate all of those that were able to make it to Open House on Tuesday. It’s always great getting to meet the parents of the great students we serve every day!

I sent out information earlier this week about Aldine Middle School in the Houston area. We have adopted this school to provide relief to the staff and students who have lost everything in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. We began collecting supplies on Thursday morning and our counselors are already overwhelmed with the generosity of our students, staff and community. Some of you have dropped off clothes, as well, and we can’t thank you enough. We will continue to collect school supplies, toiletries and anything else you feel could be used. At this point, we plan to deliver all items to Aldine the week of Sept. 25!

Attached here are the announcements and happenings at Westview!

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  • Hurricane Harvey

Posted by Marcial Guajardo at 9/6/2017

    Wildcat Community,

Amanda Johnson Many of us have been impacted personally by the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. If you haven’t been impacted personally with a family member, you still can’t help but feel the need to reach out and support those who have.

Westview has adopted Aldine MS in Houston. Many of the staff and students have lost everything. After speaking with the principal, the main focus, right now, is to provide students with the basic school supplies they need. This includes backpacks, composition notebooks, pens, pencils, spirals, etc.

Beginning tomorrow, we will start a school supply collection in the morning, before school. Our counselors will begin collecting, by grade level, in the main hallway. We will have a competition between grade levels to see who can bring the most supplies with a reward, still to be determined, at the end! If you can’t bring the supplies in the morning, please feel free to drop those off any time in the front office and we will get them to the appropriate counselor. Our goal is to need a trailer to haul this to Houston the week of Sept. 25!

Please be on the lookout for additional emails with other activities taking place over the next several weeks to support this community.

This is our chance, as a community to give back to others. As part of our charge at Westview, we focus on not just making our students stronger academically, but also socially and emotionally. This is an opportunity to build that community and show our kids what it means to give to those in need.

    Most sincerely,

    Amanda Johnson

  • Great First Day

Posted by Marcial Guajardo at 8/29/2017

It's always great to have students back in the building! The school just isn't the same without them! I hope everyone had a great first day!

We know traffic is heavy the first few days, but we appreciate the patience we saw this morning and afternoon. Over the next few days, things will slow down and not seem so hectic.  Thanks for working with us and being patient.

Tomorrow we will be on a normal schedule; students will enter the building beginning at 7:45. Those who need to eat breakfast will report directly to the cafeteria. Those not eating report to the following:

    • 6th graders-200 hallway
    • 7th graders-Elective hallway
    • 8th graders-400 hallway

We realize we may have a few students who did not report to school today due to the weather over the weekend. If tomorrow is your first day of school, please report to the appropriate location listed above first. When the bell rings, any student who does not have a schedule will report to the cafeteria.

We have open house on Tuesday, Sept. 5 from 6-8 p.m. There will be a short presentation in the cafeteria beginning at 6 p.m. and then you will have an opportunity to visit all classes.

Thanks, again, for a great first day! See you tomorrow!

  • First Day information

    Welcome Back Wildcats!

Our fabulous teachers and staff have been working extremely hard and we are excited for your return on Monday, August 28! In order to make your first day go as smooth as possible, I have listed some information below that will, hopefully, answer some questions and make for a smooth transition.

    When Students Arrive:

The building will open at 7:45 a.m. and students will report to the appropriate hallway. Sixth graders will report to the 100 and 200 hallway, 7th graders to the 200 and 300 hallway and 8th graders to the 400 hallway. Outside of each classroom will be a sign posted that will tell students which room to report to in order to pick up his/her schedule. Teachers and staff will be outside of each room, and in all of the hallways, to help direct and guide students to the correct location.  Students will remain in that location until an announcement is made to release to first period.

    Lunch Schedule:

On the first day of school only, there will be an extended lunch period for 6th graders so that they can adjust to the lunch room procedures.

    • 8th Grade:  10:56 - 11:31 (“A” Lunch - 35 minutes)
    • 7th Grade: 11:35 - 12:10 (“B Lunch - 35 minutes)
    • 6th Grade: 12:14 - 1:00 (“C” Lunch -  46 minutes first day only)

    Student Dismissal:

Sixth graders are dismissed at 3:35 p.m. and 7th/8th graders at 3:31 p.m. All busses will load and leave campus at approximately 3:45 p.m.  Sometimes on the first day of school, the busses may arrive a little late due to traffic or other unforeseen circumstances. We have an outstanding transportation department and they are able to quickly work this out within the first few days of school.

    First Day Packet and Information:

All students will receive a packet of information in his/her 4th period class. This packet contains several important documents that must be returned back to their 4th period teacher. Please review and fill in the required information and have your child return the documents back to his/her 4th period teacher by Friday, Sept. 1. We would greatly appreciate your help and support with this.

We look forward to your return!

    Amanda Johnson Parents,

It’s hard to believe that the school year is nearing the end. Our students have been amazing this year and have accomplished so much. We have watched them grow academically, socially and emotionally and have celebrated many things!

We have so many activities going on this next week to recognize their accomplishments and you can find those listed in the attached document. We hope to see you this next week at one or more of these celebrations!

One thing we need your help with is ensuring that the last two days of school run smoothly! Students will not be allowed to bring backpacks to school on Tuesday, May 30, and Wednesday, May 31. Students will be participating in activities that will not require them to carry any materials, so if backpacks are brought to school, they will be kept in the front office until the end of the day. We appreciate your support.

Thank you and have a wonderful weekend!

We have a big week coming up! We have listed the testing schedule below by date and also have noted which classes students will attend each day upon the conclusion of testing. Also, this week was the last week for tutorial busses to run. Your child may stay after school with a teacher, if needed, but transportation will not be provided.

Please help us by making sure that your child gets plenty of rest the night before. As always, every student at Westview has the option to eat breakfast on campus, so if he/she is unable to eat before leaving home, we have that covered! We will provide snacks and water for students during the testing time. Students will not be able to bring his/her own snacks and water, but we will have plenty to make sure they are taken care of! We are doing everything that we can to ensure they have all that they need during testing time.

Our students and teachers have worked hard all year long to ensure success and we are looking forward to showing off their academic intelligence!

Students who are not testing will attend and participate in a project-based learning activity on campus. Students will be placed in groups with teachers and will attend third and fourth periods upon the completion of testing.
