    Amanda Johnson Parents,

It’s hard to believe that the school year is nearing the end. Our students have been amazing this year and have accomplished so much. We have watched them grow academically, socially and emotionally and have celebrated many things!

We have so many activities going on this next week to recognize their accomplishments and you can find those listed in the attached document. We hope to see you this next week at one or more of these celebrations!

One thing we need your help with is ensuring that the last two days of school run smoothly! Students will not be allowed to bring backpacks to school on Tuesday, May 30, and Wednesday, May 31. Students will be participating in activities that will not require them to carry any materials, so if backpacks are brought to school, they will be kept in the front office until the end of the day. We appreciate your support.

Thank you and have a wonderful weekend!

    Amanda Johnson
    Principal, Westview MS

    Parents,

We have a big week coming up! We have listed the testing schedule below by date and also have noted which classes students will attend each day upon the conclusion of testing. Also, this week was the last week for tutorial busses to run. Your child may stay after school with a teacher, if needed, but transportation will not be provided.

Please help us by making sure that your child gets plenty of rest the night before. As always, every student at Westview has the option to eat breakfast on campus, so if he/she is unable to eat before leaving home, we have that covered! We will provide snacks and water for students during the testing time. Students will not be able to bring his/her own snacks and water, but we will have plenty to make sure they are taken care of! We are doing everything that we can to ensure they have all that they need during testing time.

Our students and teachers have worked hard all year long to ensure success and we are looking forward to showing off their academic intelligence!

    Monday, May 8:

    • 6th Grade Math
    • 7th Grade Math
    • 8th Grade Math retake (selected students)

All students will attend first and second period after testing and lunch. Students who are not testing will attend and participate in a project-based learning activity on campus.  Students will be placed in groups with teachers and will attend first and second periods upon the completion of testing.

    Tuesday, May 9:

    • 6th Grade Reading
    • 7th Grade Reading
    • 8th Grade Reading Retake (selected students)

All students will attend third and fourth period after testing and lunch. Students who are not testing will attend and participate in a project-based learning activity on campus. Students will be placed in groups with teachers and will attend third and fourth periods upon the completion of testing.

    Wednesday, May 10:

    • Eighth Grade Science

All other students, grades 6 and 7, will remain on a normal bell schedule.  Upon completion of testing and lunch, eighth grade will attend sixth- and seventh-period.

    Thursday, May 11:

    • Eighth Grade Social Studies

All other students, grades 6 and 7, will remain on a normal bell schedule. Upon completion of testing and lunch, eighth grade will attend sixth- and seventh-period.

We hope that you will join us in celebrating our students as we send them off to Connally High School for the next leg of their journey in life!

    Upcoming Events:

    Parents,

We’ve had another great week! Our choir Varsity Girls Choir competed in UIL and received an “excellent” rating for their concert portion and received a trophy for scoring the highest rating of straight 1's in sight reading! Way to go choir!

Just a reminder: this coming Friday, April 14 is a staff and student holiday (see attached). We will have tutorials Monday-Wednesday only.

    Have a great weekend!

    Parents,

We had approximately 240 students participate in The Big Event today! Watching our students participate in community service makes me a very proud principal! They were courteous, helpful and respectful and the feedback from the community supports this. We had a group stay here on campus and lay mulch, pick up trash and make our campus look great for the spring.

    Transportation Information:

If you have a student that rides bus 41, they will now ride on bus 40. This will be a permanent switch.

    Upcoming Events:

    • March 8: Track and Field at HHS 4:30 p.m.
    • March 9: Band UIL Concert @ CHS 8 a.m.
    • March 10: Band UIL Concert @ CHS 8 a.m.

    Spring Break:

Spring Break will be from March 13-17

    STAAR Testing:

On Tuesday, March 28  and Wednesday, March 29, our 7th and 8th graders will be testing. On the 28th, 7th graders will take the writing test and 8th will take the reading test. On the 29th, only Pre-AP 7th grade math and 8th grade math will test.

On Tuesday, the 6th graders will participate in academic rotations to continue to prepare them for testing in May. On the 29th, for those not testing, it will be a regular school day.

    Have a great weekend!
