    Parents,

Our 7th and 8th grade students will be testing Tuesday (reading or writing) and/or Wednesday, depending on their math course. However, the testing will impact all grades so we want to communicate the expectations and changes. Please know that the campus is closed to all visitors during STAAR testing, this includes lunches.

How are 6th grade students impacted by testing?

    • They will have their normal schedule and lunch time; however, some classes may be moved so they do not meet in a testing hallway. This schedule has been communicated to students through our GO Time teachers. Students were asked to write in their agenda where their classes will be relocated. This will also be posted and provided by adults in the building, as a reminder the morning of testing.

    What should testing students bring?

    • Snacks will be provided to students during testing, should the student need something. Students will also have access to bottled water.
    • Students are encouraged to wear layers (sweatshirts with hoods can be worn but the hood cannot be worn at any time); no hats are allowed.
    • No blankets, pillow or other similar items. Students should not come to school in PJs or slippers.
    • Students will only need a book/magazine. They can bring a standard, No. 2 pencil if they want (no mechanical pencils) but pencils will be available, if needed.

    Schedules

    • Students not testing will proceed through their normal schedule, knowing that rooms and/or teachers may be shifted.
    • Students testing will only attend 5th, 6th, and 7th periods on Tuesday and Wednesday after testing. This also depends on when testing is complete. It is possible that they will only attend 6th and 7th period.

We will not have tutorial busses available next week after school. Students who stay after school with a teacher must make plans to be picked up.

While testing seems to bring on anxiety for many of our students, we really see it as an opportunity for them to shine. Please encourage them to relax and just do their best! That is our message to them and we want it to feel as normal as relaxed as possible.

Thanks for sending us such great kids!

    Parents,

As always, attached is the newsletter with the following information:

    • Attendance Matters
    • PTO Meeting
    • Spring Break
    • Read it Forward
    • Anonymous Alert App

I sent out an email earlier this week announcing that we would have a lockdown drill today, Friday. I think it’s important for you to know that we could not be more proud of the way our students and staff responded during the 20 minutes that the drill was conducted.

Pflugerville Police joined us and paired with an administrator in each of our designated areas. During our debrief, Pflugerville PD was very complimentary of our procedures and how quickly staff responded. They were as equally impressed with our students.

Our student safety is always our number one priority. With that said, we will continue to conduct lockdown drills once per month. Additionally, we will add scenarios in that might include things like going into lockdown during a passing period. If we don’t practice these things, we may not be as efficient in our response, should we ever need to be.

I will not always announce to you beforehand that we are conducting a drill, as this allows us to put ourselves in a more realistic situation. However, I will send you an email afterwards so that you are aware that it was a drill.

As always, we appreciate your support and thank you for sending us such awesome kids!

  • Lockdown drill

Posted by Marcial Guajardo on 2/22/2018

    Parents,

In the interest of campus safety, we will be conducting a lockdown drill on Friday during third period at approximately 10:15 a.m. We do not always announce drills to students and/or parents so the drills are more authentic; however we do not want to cause any fear or panic due to the recent events that have happened.

During the lockdown drill, the following things will be different than our usual drills:

    • The fire alarm will be pulled and then silenced – Students will not exit during the alarm.
    • Rooms will be released from lockdown by an administrator or SRO. Until someone opens the classroom door with a key, the class is in lockdown.  This will simulate a truer scenario of how a lockdown ends.

Thank you for helping keep Westview as safe as possible and taking this drill and any future drills seriously. I encourage you to have conversations with your child regarding safety at school. If your child is having trouble processing these current events, we encourage you to reach out to their counselor and set up a meeting. If you have not already downloaded the Anonymous Alert app, I encourage you and your student to do so. We provided an opportunity for students to do this yesterday during our GO Time and we encourage you to do the same.

    See something, say something.

    Respectfully,

    Amanda Johnson
    Principal
