    Dear Diamondback Family,

I wanted to make you aware of a couple of opportunities that are available for students this week. Our 8th grade students have the opportunity to  attend Science Tutorials today and Thursday after school in the cafeteria. Students also have the opportunity to attend tutorials with their teachers in all other subjects for a last push as we prepare for the STAAR test next week. Also this Saturday, May 12, we are hosting a STAAR Boot Camp from 8:30-noon. Breakfast will be served at 8:30 a.m., with our first rotations beginning at 9 a.m. Students will go through rotations focusing on TEKS for identified STAAR content areas. Pizza will be served at noon, as the students are being picked up. We ask that parents are here to pick their students up at noon.

For the week of May 14-18, we will be administering the STAAR test:

    • May 14 - 6th and 7th Math STAAR, and 8th Math Re-test

    Dear Diamondback Family,

Our eighth graders took the STAAR Reading test a few weeks ago. Additionally, seventh grade students in Pre-AP took the Math STAAR test. The results are now available through the TEA Student Portal. Please see the attached memo (Español aquí) for instructions. You’ll see that a student who has a “YES” for “APPROACHES” has passed the test.

Our seventh graders also took the STAAR writing test. These results will be available in June.

    Thank you,

    Jeremy LeJeune

    Dear Diamondback Family,

I hope you are doing well this Wednesday afternoon. It is hard to believe we have already finished basketball season and now we are gearing up for track. I have attached our track schedule, so that you mark your calendars to come out and support the Diamondbacks.

Next week, on the 21st, we will be participating in a Mock STAAR exam. Please help ensure that your student gets a good night rest, and that they arrive on time. Please, if possible, do not schedule any medical appointments on this day.

Night of the Stars On Feb. 27, we will host our AVID Family Night of the Stars. We will showcase our Science Fair projects, have painting activities with the family, and the Austin Astronomy Association will be setting up telescopes for some stargazing. Please make plans to join us for a night filled with fun for the entire family.

I also wanted to let you know about an exciting opportunity for our 8th grade students who will attend Connally High School next year. Attached and below is information on their exciting Orchestra.

I hope you have a great evening.

    Sincerely,

    Jeremy LeJeune

    From Connally High School:

Did you know that Connally High School is the ONLY high school in all of Pflugerville ISD that offers orchestra? Most people don't know that.

If you've ever been interested in playing in the orchestra (Violin, Viola, Chelo, and/or Bass) we have some exciting news for you...

New ORCHESTRA classes begin next year for any Cougar... no experience required!

Music Theory I - This course will introduce students to the theory of music, providing them with the skills needed to read and write Western music notation, as well as to understand, analyse, and listen informedly. It will cover material such as pitches and scales, intervals, clefs, rhythm, form, meter, phrases and cadences, and basic harmony. This course covers the fundamentals of Western music theory, from the absolute basics to some more advanced concepts and, as such, is the perfect course for beginners and more experienced musicians alike.

Orchestra I/Non-Varsity Orchestra - This new orchestra class is welcome to any and all students that have not had the chance to play a string instrument and would like to get involved in music. It's okay if the student has never taken a music class. The Non-Varsity Orchestra class is designed for high school beginning music students. The course focuses on the basics of playing a string instrument alone and in an ensemble setting. Students will learn how to read music notation and perform with peers.

If you have any questions, please email our fabulous Orchestra Director, Ms. Mejia: Franchesca.Mejia@pfisd.net.

Our 8th Grade students will participate in the 8th Grade Invasion at CHS on Feb. 7.  Students will get to tour the campus and get to observe various classes as they prepare to work on their class choice sheets.

On another note, I have attached information regarding Weiss High School cheerleader tryouts, if your student is interested. I hope you have a great evening.

  • Attendance Challenge

Posted by Marcial Guajardo on 11/30/2017 12:00:00 PM

    Good Evening Diamondbacks,

I wanted to share a competition we have going on with the grade levels.

Starting this week through Dec. 19, the grade level with the highest overall attendance percentage will win open seating at lunch for Dec. 20 and 21. As an extra incentive, any grade level that has 100 percent attendance on any day will win an additional day of open seating.

It is always important for our students to attend school so they do not fall behind on any instruction, but we wanted to add a friendly competition to see who could get the highest percentage of attendance.

Please encourage your students to be here daily, and we ask that you are mindful with any appointments during this time to allow your student to be a part of the winning class.

I hope you have a great evening,

    Jeremy LeJeune
    Principal
    Dessau Middle School
