    Good Afternoon Diamondback Family,

It is hard to believe that today is May 1st, and we are beginning our last month of school.  This month we will have many activities going on, starting with Teacher Appreciation Week this week.  Please join me in thanking all of our teachers for their hard work, and all that they do for our students.

We are beginning our second week of SSI for our 8th grade students, and it good to see all of our students working so hard to be successful.  We also are currently in our 2nd week of Advisory Interventions for our students as we prepare for our upcoming test.  This Thursday, we will have our Science STAAR prep for our 8th grade students after school in the cafeteria.  This will be the 5th and final prep for Science.

On Saturday, DMS is hosting our 4th and final STAAR Saturday Boot Camp, as a final practice for our students as we prepare for the STAAR test next week.  Breakfast will be served at 8:30, followed by the students participating in rotations.  Students will also be served a snack, and pizza for lunch.  STAAR Saturday is open for all grade levels, and we ask that all students be picked up by 12:30 p.m.

Congratulations to former Dessau Middle School student and HHS graduate, Samaje Perine, who was drafted in the 4th round, 114th  overall pick to the Washington Redskins.  We wish him the best as he begins his NFL career.

I hope you have a great evening,

    Dear Diamondback Family,

I hope everyone had a great weekend and you were able to enjoy the beautiful weather.  We will be administering the STAAR Test on Tuesday and Wednesday, and I wanted to send out a couple of reminders.

On Tuesday March 28th, our 7th graders will be taking the STAAR Writing, and our 8th graders will be taking the STAAR Reading.

On Wednesday March 29, our 8th graders will be taking the STAAR Math, along with our 7th grade Pre AP Math, and Geometry students.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, if your student is not taking a STAAR exam, they will be taking our local assessments.

Please be sure that your student gets plenty of rest over the next couple of evenings, so that they are ready to go in the morning.

Also it is important that each of our students starts the day off with a good breakfast.  Breakfast is served every morning in our cafeteria, and is free to all Dessau Middle School students.

Please remind your students, that the DMS dress code remains in place on testing days, and that pajama pants and house shoes should remain at home.  Also please remind your students that pillows and blankets need to remain at home as well.

I am very proud of all of the hard work our students have put in to prepare for their test, and I have no doubt that they will be successful.

    Dear Diamondback Family,

As we prepare for our 5th grade parent night this evening, I wanted to tell you about some of the great things going on here at Dessau Middle School.  Monday evening, our 8th grade boys basketball teams played Pflugerville Middle school, with our 8th grade A team coming out with a big win. They will be competing next week for the district championship versus Cele Middle School.  Last week we launched our very own Dessau News Network (DNN), which help us to showcase video news segments as well as help with our announcements in the cafeteria.  Look for more from DNN in the near future on our campus website. Recently, our students participated in an assembly to support our No Place for Hate initiative.  They had the opportunity to hear Jo Ivester, author of The Outskirts of Hope, a memoir of life in the deep south in the 60s.

A few of our upcoming activities:

    ·         Wed, Feb 1st is early release day, students will be dismissed at 12:45

    ·         Thurs, Feb 2nd girls basketball will tip off vs. Cele for the season finale

    ·         Mon, Feb 6th boys basketball will play their season finale vs Cele

    ·         Fri, Feb 10th we will have our Valentine’s dance

We hope to see you at the upcoming events, and hope you have a Great Diamondback evening.

    Jeremy
