    Dear Diamondback Family:

I hope everyone had a great three-day weekend. I wanted to remind everyone of some great opportunities this week.  We have STAAR interventions on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday after school beginning at 3:45 p.m. Our focus will be on 7th Grade Writing, as well as 8th Grade Reading and Math. We will have a tutorial bus available for any student that needs it, as well as snacks will be provided.

On Saturday, April 7th, we will host a STAAR Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Breakfast will be provided at 8:30 a.m., and we will begin tutorials at 9 a.m. Pizza will be provided at noon, as students are leaving to return home. Our focus on Saturday will be on 7th Grade Writing, and 8th Grade Reading and Math. Parents will need to pick their students up at noon.

It is also important that our students prepare for the upcoming test physically, by getting enough sleep each night. We also have free breakfast for all students each morning beginning at 7:40 a.m., so that they may begin their day with a nutritious meal.

On Tuesday, April 10, students will take the 7th Grade Writing, and 8th Grade Reading exams. Then on Wednesday, April 11, students will take the 8th Grade Math test, including our 7th Grade students who are in Pre-AP Math. Please encourage your students to continue to give their best, as we prepare for their time to shine.

    Sincerely,

    Jeremy LeJeune

    Dear Diamondback Family,

As we approach the STAAR test this spring, I wanted to make you aware of a couple of opportunities. We have tutorials on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, depending on the subject matter. We provide a bus for any student who stays for tutorials and Homework Haven these three days every week. DMS will host a STAAR Saturday Boot Camp on April 7, from 9 a.m. to noon. This will be designed for Writing for our 7th Grade Students and Reading and Math for our 8th Grade Students. I have attached information regarding our STAAR Saturday, and we would appreciate you encouraging your student to attend. I hope each of you have a wonderful evening.

    Dear Diamondback Family,

I hope you are doing well this Wednesday afternoon. It is hard to believe we have already finished basketball season and now we are gearing up for track. I have attached our track schedule, so that you mark your calendars to come out and support the Diamondbacks.

Next week, on the 21st, we will be participating in a Mock STAAR exam. Please help ensure that your student gets a good night rest, and that they arrive on time. Please, if possible, do not schedule any medical appointments on this day.

Night of the Stars On Feb. 27, we will host our AVID Family Night of the Stars. We will showcase our Science Fair projects, have painting activities with the family, and the Austin Astronomy Association will be setting up telescopes for some stargazing. Please make plans to join us for a night filled with fun for the entire family.

I also wanted to let you know about an exciting opportunity for our 8th grade students who will attend Connally High School next year. Attached and below is information on their exciting Orchestra.

I hope you have a great evening.

    Sincerely,

    Jeremy LeJeune

    From Connally High School:

Did you know that Connally High School is the ONLY high school in all of Pflugerville ISD that offers orchestra? Most people don't know that.

If you've ever been interested in playing in the orchestra (Violin, Viola, Chelo, and/or Bass) we have some exciting news for you...

New ORCHESTRA classes begin next year for any Cougar... no experience required!

Music Theory I - This course will introduce students to the theory of music, providing them with the skills needed to read and write Western music notation, as well as to understand, analyse, and listen informedly. It will cover material such as pitches and scales, intervals, clefs, rhythm, form, meter, phrases and cadences, and basic harmony. This course covers the fundamentals of Western music theory, from the absolute basics to some more advanced concepts and, as such, is the perfect course for beginners and more experienced musicians alike.

Orchestra I/Non-Varsity Orchestra - This new orchestra class is welcome to any and all students that have not had the chance to play a string instrument and would like to get involved in music. It's okay if the student has never taken a music class. The Non-Varsity Orchestra class is designed for high school beginning music students. The course focuses on the basics of playing a string instrument alone and in an ensemble setting. Students will learn how to read music notation and perform with peers.

If you have any questions, please email our fabulous Orchestra Director, Ms. Mejia: Franchesca.Mejia@pfisd.net.

    Dear Diamondback Family,

As we are beginning our Spring semester, we are also preparing for our next school year.  Today we had our 5th grade students come over to visit DMS, and will have our 5th Grade Parent Orientation on Jan. 29 from 6-7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. We will also have 8th Grade Parent appointments for our 8th grade students as they prepare to transition to high school on Feb. 5 during the school day, and Feb. 6 at 5:30p.m.

Our 8th Grade students will participate in the 8th Grade Invasion at CHS on Feb. 7.  Students will get to tour the campus and get to observe various classes as they prepare to work on their class choice sheets.

On another note, I have attached information regarding Weiss High School cheerleader tryouts, if your student is interested. I hope you have a great evening.

    Sincerely,

I hope everyone has had a wonderful Friday as we welcomed in December. It is hard to believe we are already in December, and winter break is right around the corner. Please continue to encourage your students to be here every day, so that they do not miss instruction and so that they get to enjoy the many fun activities we have, like our pep rally today. We are working hard to achieve our attendance goal for the year, and need every student to help us reach that goal.

  • Attendance Challenge

Posted by Marcial Guajardo on 11/30/2017 12:00:00 PM

    Good Evening Diamondbacks,

I wanted to share a competition we have going on with the grade levels.

Starting this week through Dec. 19, the grade level with the highest overall attendance percentage will win open seating at lunch for Dec. 20 and 21. As an extra incentive, any grade level that has 100 percent attendance on any day will win an additional day of open seating.

It is always important for our students to attend school so they do not fall behind on any instruction, but we wanted to add a friendly competition to see who could get the highest percentage of attendance.

Please encourage your students to be here daily, and we ask that you are mindful with any appointments during this time to allow your student to be a part of the winning class.

I hope you have a great evening,

    Jeremy LeJeune
    Principal
    Dessau Middle School
