    Hello Patriot Parents!

I hope that you are enjoying the warm weather and the extra time with your children that comes with the summer months. Additionally, I am confident that you are continuing to ensure that your children read daily, as that will support your child's future academic success more than anything else!  Please find a time each day to make that happen!

    STAAR Information:

Scores for the grade 3-5 STAAR soon will be made available for individual students and can be found by logging into the TEA student portal. Details regarding access are included below, and we also will send home Confidential Student Reports once school resumes this fall.

To access the TEA Student Portal, parents will need to find their student’s unique access code.  This unique code may be found on the Confidential Student Report if your student has taken a STAAR test previously.  If this is not the case,  you soon should be able to obtain your student’s unique access by logging into the FOCUS Parent Portal.  It should be marked on the bottom left side of the page as Texas Assessment Data Portal.  If it is not yet posted, please check in later this week.

As you know, I am working on the needed preparations for Mott Elementary to open in August 2017. The

opening of Mott is a full time job. So, I will not be on campus at Riojas except on rare occasions for special

events. I will also not be the person writing the Patriot Press any longer. Dr. Elia Diaz-Ortiz, an experienced

campus administrator will fill in until the end of the school year. Along with her, Aubrey Johnson and Dena

Friesen, also experienced campus administrators, will be supporting Riojas staff, students and parents. If you

need assistance, please feel free to contact one of them. If you contact me, please understand that I will

    forward your questions to them.

End of Year Glow in the Dark Dance Party – Friday, May 12th from 6-8 p.m.

Teacher Appreciation Week begins May 1st. I highly encourage you, and/or your child, to write a note to your

childs teacher about the impact he or she has had on your child this year. Also consider sending a message of

appreciation to other educators on campus who have had an impact on your child this year, or in years past. I

can promise you that educators save those personal notes, and treasure them for years.

    From the Principal, Tammy Rebecek

Thank you to our amazing Riojas PTO for providing the families with a fun and successful carnival. A special

shout out to Nikki Harrison, our PTO President, for also being the Carnival Chairperson and organizing the

entire event! We had great weather, I saw hundreds of smiling children and parents, heard lots of positive

feedback, and the PTO raised just under $10,000!! You can’t ask for more than that! The PTO has wonderful

plans for this money, including more swings on the playground. I am sure that if you ask your child what they

think about more swings, you will understand how excited we are!

    Mott News

    •  We are looking for parents, community members and business owners who are interested in participating in our Campus Academic Advisory Committee (CAAC). If you are interested or know of someone who might be, please let me know.
    •  Watch this space for future Mott community events and spirit nights. We are looking forward to having all of our new staff and families begin getting to know each other!

Mott or Riojas – That is the question!

As students are bringing back their “Intent to Return” forms, we are seeing some confusion about whether

your child is zoned for Riojas Elementary or Mott Elementary for next year. Please see the below map to

determine which school your child will be attending, so you can correctly indicate that on the form.

    boundaries

The streets in the green area are in the Riojas zone, and the streets in the blue area are in the Mott zone. If you

have any questions, please call our registrar, Mr. Ray, at 512-594-4138.

    From the Principal, Tammy Rebecek

We had a surprise STAAR assembly for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students on Friday. Shout outs to the PHS Drum

Line, HHS Cheerleaders, and HHS Kickstart for coming out to cheer on Riojas students. In addition, students

took a Kahoot quiz (fun, online, timed quiz) and we had a special video message from Spike, the Round Rock

Express mascot! The entire assembly was focused on letting students know that we are proud of their hard

work and that we believe in them! Help us spread that message! STAAR testing for 4th and 5th grade happens

this week. If your child is testing, please make sure they get a good night’s sleep, a healthy breakfast, and a big

    hug!

    Safety Is Important!

We had yet another super close call this week in the parking lot with a car almost hitting a child. Had the

mother not jerked her child to the side, she would have been hit. I am not making these instances up! Driving

slowly and cautiously in the parking lot is as important as driving safely in the street.
