Cele Update: Aug. 25

Posted by Marcial Guajardo on 8/25/2019 12:00:00 PM

Colt Families,

We had a fantastic first week at Cele. Our students got straight to work in classes showing their Grit and Cele Pride, seizing opportunities and doing what it takes to become a little smarter each and every day. As you can see by what follows, we are up and running with extra-curricular activities as well. There is so much to be a part of at our school, and our goal is for every student to develop interests, talents, and passions beyond the classroom. We advertise clubs and organizations here at school, but parents can learn from other parents as well. A visit to facebook.com/CelePTO/ can help you connect with the Cele Community. We also have our first PTO meeting this Wednesday.

Round Up Reimagined

Round up is a 24-minute period during the day in which every Colt focuses on targeted skills to become a little smarter. This year, we are recommitting ourselves to growing each and every student by making higher learning relevant and engaging. Students who could use extra assistance with math or reading in order to master current learning will work with a math or reading teacher. Students who are demonstrating mastery in their classes will work on something that extends that learning in a real world context. Each of our teachers has designed a three-week course aligned to their personal passions or areas of expertise. Students will learn more about Round Up this week, and we will begin after Labor Day, Tuesday, September 3. We are excited about the potential of Round Up this year, and I would appreciate parent feedback as we roll it out.

Free and Reduced Price Lunch Applications

Did you know that at Cele roughly 40% of our kiddos qualify for free or reduced price lunches? Even if your child previously qualified, applications need to be resubmitted every year. Students have 30 days grandfathered at last year’s status, but it is very important to complete this application soon. Follow this link: www.myschoolapps.com . Parents, if you are unsure as to whether or not you might qualify, feel free to call (512)-594-0430.

$500 School Supply Competition

This year, to encourage all families to apply, there is a competition! The campus with the largest percentage of applicants (regardless of qualification) wins $500 in school supplies. That would be awesome for our counselor and social worker to have on standby for our kiddos who need them. In order to complete the application please utilize this link: www.myschoolapps.com

First Robotics Team THIS Monday

We are looking for students who enjoy inventing, building, coding, problem solving, working on teams and having fun. LEGO Robotics experience is a plus, but no experience is needed. If your child is interested, our first meeting is Monday, Aug. 26 from 3:35-5 p.m. in Room 815 with Ms. Molly.Kamper@pfisd.net. Bring a friend!

Band Parent Meeting THIS Tuesday

Band Parents are invited to join our directors this Tuesday, Aug. 27, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. to set the stage for the coming year.

PTO Meeting THIS Wednesday

Join us for our first PTO meeting of the year this Wednesday, Aug. 28, from 6-7 p.m. in the Library. Every parent at Cele Middle School automatically is a part of the PTO, and we could use as many voices and opinions as possible to set goals for the coming year.

Volleyball Scrimmage THIS Wednesday & Thursday

We are very proud of how hard our girls worked throughout tryouts last week. It was HIGHLY competitive, and I am very excited to see our Lady Colts compete this year. Get a preview this week as they scrimmage Kelly Lane and Park Crest – 7th grade plays Wednesday at Park Crest and 8th grade plays Thursday here at Cele. Games start at 5:30 p.m. this year, and you can find all athletic schedules at this link.

AVID Parent Meeting THIS Thursday

Our first AVID parent meeting of the year is this Thursday, August 29, from 6:00-7:30pm in the cafeteria. Mr. McCrea invites all parents of AVID students to come and meet families and learn more about what is in store for AVID this year.

Theatre Rehearsal THIS Wednesday & Friday

Theatre Rehearsal will run from 4:00-6:40pm this Wednesday and Friday and will continue on those days most weeks until the end of November. Ms. Kewley and Mr. Beseda encourage students to audition for One Act Play competition. 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students interested in auditions should see visit with a theatre teacher this week.

Family Access to Skyward

As you have probably already heard, Skyward is the new student information system (formerly FOCUS). Your child’s attendance (tardies and absences) as well as grades in all eight classes are linked in Skyward. Beginning the week of August 26, parents should receive an email from PfISD containing log in information. Please be on the lookout for that email. I want to emphasize that EVERY family should have Skyward access and be checking grades weekly.  Since students have seven different courses, this will be critical for staying up to date with current grades, test results, and other important assignment information.

Campus Academic Advisory Committee (CAAC):

Are you interested in learning more about the professional development plan at Cele? How about the accountability results? Intervention plans? Other important campus processes? If you answered yes to any of these questions then the CAAC would be a great committee for you to join. We are looking for parents, business representatives, and community members to join our team. If you are interested please simply email me at Ben.OConnor@pfisd.net

PAGE Applications Open

Pflugerville ISD parents of gifted learners are encouraged to apply to represent their campus feeder pattern as a Parent Adviser for Gifted Education (PAGE). PAGE’s will participate in district gifted advisory meetings; learn more about gifted education in Pflugerville ISD; share ideas to help continuously improve GT services districtwide. Interested parents should apply here. Applications are due by September 25, 2019. Applicants will be contacted to serve on the committee by September 30, 2019. The first meeting will be held on Monday, Oct. 28.

Bus Routes

We had tremendous improvement in departure times after one day, and I expect that to continue. To find your bus stop and pick up or drop off times, go to this link: Bus Routes

You will be able to enter your address and find the necessary information about your child’s bus route. The routes are current. If you live on one of the Cele Community’s many brand new streets, you may not see your bus stop. If you experience this problem, please call us at 512.594.0450 and we’ll work it out together.

Breakfast

While the Number 1 best option is still “family time at the breakfast table”, that is often unrealistic.  Our Café provides a free breakfast for every student.  If breakfast at home doesn’t work for your family, please encourage your child to eat at school.  We find that it is so much more difficult to learn when we are hungry. For information on menus, how to set up an online lunch account, and how to apply for reduced price or free lunch, visit www.pfisd.net
