    Hello Panther Pfamilies,

As we enter the first week of October, we have a very short week for students ahead of us. Students will be off from Oct 5-9th this coming week and teachers and staff will take advantage of professional learning opportunities through the district.

We definitely set some records with 225 students attending the dance Friday night, which was 100 more students than our normal dance participation. Thanks to some parent input, we are going to adjust our dismissal procedures from the dance, possibly allowing for front and back pick-up and having students wait inside and by the exit doors until their ride arrives. Before our winter dance, we will send out specific procedural changes.  Although we had no issues, we always love parent feedback and want to create safer procedures, especially as we have more students in specific locations.

Parents, we are asking everyone to apply for free and reduced lunch this school year and raise our overall participation. Here is the information to apply.

The online form is available online through the Skyward Parent Portal, available by clicking “Log in here” at:Free and Reduced Lunch Application (English) Free and Reduced Lunch Application (Spanish) and Free and Reduced Lunch Application (Vietnamese)

  • Panther News and Updates: Happy Labor Day!

Posted by Philip Clayton on 9/4/2023 1:00:00 PM

    Greetings Panthers,

I hope everyone is enjoying their Labor Day and relaxing! We have quite a few updates this week, as we enter the month of September. I'd like to give a huge shout out to all of our panther staff for working together and taking on more work last week as many staff members were out ill. This response is extremely critical for strong organizations to flourish. Thank you Panther Staff!

Reminder - No school tomorrow, Sept. 5th as it is a staff professional development day and student holiday.

Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions on the topics and events below:

Band Information from Mrs. Robison and Ms. Hynes:

Panther Band Students who are checking out a school instrument will need to return their instrument contract with students and parent signatures to Mrs. Hynes before being able to take their instrument home.  Please contact Mrs. Hynes at Sophie.hynes@pfisd.net if you have questions about checking out an instrument.

Advanced band students should be practicing regularly and turning in weekly practice sheets.  Parents please encourage your child to practice!  Students will progress quicker and enjoy playing more with more practice!

The band calendar has been updated and is viewable on the band website at https://sites.google.com/pfisd.net/pmsband/calendar-band-schedule?authuser=0

Rehearsal dates and band trip dates will be added soon.

Mrs. Robison’s beginner band students will begin playing on instruments next week!  If you have your own instrument please bring it to school next week.  Have a wonderful long weekend band families!

7th and 8th Grade Football Games on Wednesday, Sept. 6th @ Pflugerville High School:

Both football games will be played at the high school this week on Wednesday.

Theatre Chocolate Bar Sales - Guidelines:

Theatre started their "World's Finest Chocolates" candy bar sales last week and will sell through the middle of September. Students may only sell to other students before and after school, as to not compete with the cafeteria and cause distractions for learning in the classroom. I have directed all students to keep all chocolate bars in their backpack as well. We will continue with these reminders.

PTO News - September Calendar and Soda Drive:

We had a tremendous meeting this past week and had 12 parents in attendance for this year's PTO! They've been hard at work and we are asking for your help with sodas for events this year. Below is the September calendar and the flyer for the Soda Drive. If you can donate, please bring any sodas to Open House on Sept. 12th.

    Student ID's and Lanyards:

Student ID's have been printed and will be passed out with our panther lanyards this week to all 823 students. It is critical that students have their ID's visible each day and will be checked as they enter the building before school. It is also very important that students establish a routine for where they place their ID in the evening, so they remember it in the morning. Replacement ID's will be $5 throughout the year.

    Chromebook Information and News:

We are waiting on 30 more new chromebooks from technology to be passed out to new and returning students. We should have those very soon and will disseminate to students whose parents have completed the chromebook agreement in skyward. Here is a quick link to help.

Posted by Philip Clayton on 8/27/2023 3:00:00 PM

    Greetings Panther Pfamilies,

We have had a great start to the school year and that is a huge thanks to our panther teachers and staff who have prepared well! Our students have arrived to campus prepared and ready to learn as well, and their responsiveness to expectations and challenges has been tremendous. Thank you to our parent volunteers that have been supporting us in getting the library ready for students and staff this upcoming week. We will begin hosting students and ELA classes this week for presentations.

Due to an uptick in student and staff illnesses, we will be reminding everyone to wash hands thoroughly and clean surfaces frequently throughout campus this week. I hope everyone is feeling ok or at least on the mend, if you have been feeling ill the past few days. My response time may be a bit slower this evening, as I will be resting and getting over illness of my own.

Our goal is for all schedule changes to be made and final by the end of this week, as students have had the opportunity to request changes the last few days. The counselors and I will be working through these requests, as well as other requests submitted last week. After these requests are honored, we may still need to balance class sizes and make some additional final changes.

    Tutorials Schedule this Year:

Here are the set days and times for tutorials if your child needs additional assistance with any assignment or test prep throughout the year.

    Monday - Math

    Tuesday - Science/Social Studies

    Thursday - English Language Arts/Reading

    Student Club Interest Form:

We will be sending out a student club interest survey later in the week for students to recommend specific new clubs for the 23-24 school year. We will provide a link and a QR code for students at lunch to recommend possible clubs. Once these recommendations are received, they will be sent to all staff members to hopefully match a sponsor to run the club the rest of the year.

    Treatment Agreements Finalized:

Each classroom will begin implementing their classroom treatment agreement this week and throughout the school year. This agreement sets the tone for how students will treat eachother, teachers will treat students and how students will treat the teacher as well. Here is an example of the 7th grade treatment agreement.

    7th Grade Treatment Agreement

Join the Campus Academic Advisory Committee for 2023-24:

We are looking for new community members to join our CAAC for this school year.

The role of the CAAC is primarily advisory and consultative in nature. The principal shall involve the CAAC in:

    • assisting in the development, review, revision of the campus plan.

    • reviewing student performance and campus plan progress.

We will have our first meeting on Monday, September 25th @ 5:45 pm in either the PMS cafeteria or room B 101 depending on our turnout. We will have a minimum of 4 meetings this school year and please send me a direct email if you would like to join our committee. Thanks.

Safety Reminder about Gum Chewing and Band Participation:

Gum chewing is not permitted on campus and especially during band instruction, as any food items could obstruct airways while playing an instrument. We have seen an unusually high amount of gum chewing this school year and parents we need your help to remind your child that this is indeed, a safety issue. Thanks.

Student ID Pictures will start Tomorrow:

We will begin taking student pictures for new ID's, starting tomorrow (8/28) and continuing through Thursday. We hope to have all ID's printed and disseminated to students by Sept. 6th.

    PTO meeting # 2 this week - August 31st @ 5:30 pm:

We have had a great start to our PTO this school year and are excited to welcome new members this Thursday. Members will be selling Panther Logo Bumper Stickers for $1 at different venues this school year. We have also partnered with 2 new local businesses who are supporting our fundraising efforts. Thank you to Afro Beauty & Braids and Donut Palace for your donation. For more information about PTO, please reach out to me or Ms. Guardiola directly. philip.clayton@pfisd.net and daniela.guardiola@pfisd.net.

    Student Holidays - Sept. 4th and 5th:

There will no school on September 4th and 5th, due to Labor Day and Staff Professional Development/Planning and Prep.

    Greetings Panther Pfamilies,

We had a great start to the 23-24 school year last week! Our 6th grade students showed great self-advocacy in looking for classrooms and asking questions as needed. We were all very impressed! Students have done a great job on the dress code for the most part. Thank you parents for helping us with this aspect of school each day.

We were also cleared to use the gym floor for the first day of school, so that definitely helped logistics and comfortability for students last Tuesday.

We are still working to get some students in all the correct classes, but should be wrapping that up soon this week and then moving to student preference on schedule changes. We do have a few large classes we will need to balance as well moving forward. We will post the QR code around school on Tuesday and will allow students the rest of the week to request changes. Part of this form is to include a parent's email address to make you aware of these requests as well. It is very similar to last year's form.

We have our calendar set and are adjusting it for parents to view, we just need to take off some staff only information before it's finalized.

    Student ID's:

We will be taking pictures for student ID's during the week of August 28-September 1st. ID's will be printed and handed out with panther lanyards for all students on September 6th. Students are required to wear ID's and lanyards so that they are visibile throughout the day as an added measure. PfISD requires student ID's to be worn at all extracurricular events as well. Replacement ID's will be $5 and we will send more information out soon about that process.

    STAR 360 Dates - Math/Reading:

All PMS students will take the STAR 360 test in the area of Reading on Wednesday, 8/23 and Thursday, 8/24. We ask that all students bring their Chromebooks charged on those two days so that they are ready for the assessment. Star Assessments are short tests that provide teachers with personalized learning data for each student. Star tests are computer adaptive, which means they adjust in difficulty to each answer students provide. This helps teachers get the best data to help students in the shortest amount of testing time. We will have additional chromebooks for students who may not have theirs yet.

The Math test will be administered on Tuesday, 8/29 and Wednesday, 8/30.

Open House DATE CHANGE - September 12th @ 6 pm:

Mark your calendars for Open House at Pflugerville Middle School on September 12thth at 6 pm. Parents, feel free to use this night to check out our upgraded facilities including brand new gym floor, bleachers and state of the art Choir and Band Hall.

    Panther Band News:

Beginning Band students will not need their instruments until instructed by Mrs. Robison or Mrs. Hynes please leave them at home until we are ready to use them.

All band students need to bring their binders, band book, and a pencil next week for a supply check.  Wind Ensemble and Honor Band students will begin section rehearsals before or after school.  The sectional schedule was emailed this week and communicated during class. Please email Mrs. Hynes if you have questions about the Honor Band schedule and Mrs. Robison about the Wind Ensemble schedule.  Please visit the band website at:

    https://sites.google.com/pfisd.net/pmsband

and fill out the handbook google form.  You can also sign up for private lessons and view the supply sheet on the website.

Theatre Auditions for the Fall Play - Sept. 28th and Sept. 29th: Message from Mrs. Driscoll

Theatre - Auditions for the fall play will be held on Monday, Sept 28 and Tuesday Sept 29 in the Drama Room from 3:35-4:30. Come on either day! This audition is open to ALL STUDENTS! Picture Day is September 29th:

For student pictures, we will choose one content area to bring students down from each period to the gym. Coaches, put this on your calendar. Please email sylvia.fernandez@pfisd.net with questions.

Posted by Philip Clayton on 8/13/2023 1:00:00 PM

    Greetings Parents and Pfamilies,

Schedules will be active tomorrow morning and I applaud our counselors for continuing to work on them through the weekend. They will be making adjustments today and tomorrow as well. I also appreciate the support from the community and the patience from so many of you. I want to explain where we are at and the challenges we have faced due to proactive future planning in the spring. Specific student electives were locked in to the corresponding classes in April and May. When we had to pivot and move some sections here and there, those students remained locked in and could not move. I have learned a better way to do this in the spring, however we had to unaccept schedules and this affected the preplanned placing of specific students. Our next step is to begin cleaning up schedules and placing all students in the correct electives if they are not. Fortunately, quite a few students are in the right place, but the counselors will have many busy days ahead of them.

The first two days of school, we will have to be pretty tight on not moving schedules right away as we need to account for students who do not show up in our enrollment numbers. There are always students who never officially withdrew, attending other schools, as well as students we must account for that do not have shot records and by law can not attend public school until records are received. This is a district-wide practice to ensure we have accurate enrollment counts.

We know their will be schedule change needs and we will be addressing those one student at a time. As we have made these initial adjustments, we will provide a QR code for students to request changes a few days after school starts.

School Pick Up & Drop Off: this information was pulled from our PMS Secondary Rules and Regulations.

Our primary goal during student drop off and pick up is the safety of our students and faculty.  We ask that all parents and community members adhere to the signs, painted and freestanding, to help ensure the safety of all.

    General Guidelines:

    • Students should only exit a vehicle when it is curbside.

    • Red curbs marked for "No Parking" means that vehicles may stop at the curb but drivers cannot exit the vehicle leaving the vehicle unattended.

    • Vehicles should not park or stop in a crosswalk.

    • Vehicles must yield to pedestrians for the entire time they are in the crosswalk.

    • Students should only cross using the crosswalk.

    Morning Drop Off:

    • Please drop off all students in the front of the school, using the loop and  pull forward as far as possible before stopping and allowing students to exit.  Do not pull into the parking lot to drop off students.

    • Only vehicles intending to enter the building, should use the front parking lot.

    • Students may enter the building at 7:50 am through the front entrance and report directly to the cafeteria; students may sit in their assigned grade level hallways or go to the cafeteria for breakfast.

    • Once students have finished breakfast, they will go sit in their assigned grade level hallway.

    • Students should exit their car as soon as the vehicle comes to a complete stop and it is safe to do so.

    • Students arriving after 8:15 need to enter school through the front of the building and anyone later than 8:20 should sign in at the main office.

    Afternoon Pick Up:

    • The bus lane must be clear of vehicles between 2:45 and 3:45.  Do not enter the bus lane if there are buses already parked - please park in the front lot and walk into the office.

    • Please pick up all students in the front of the school, using the loop and pull forward as far as possible.

    • Students are dismissed from school at 3:35, they should be with a faculty member or off campus by 3:45.

    • Students should plan to leave campus on game days and return at the game time.

    • Students walking, being picked up, or cycling are dismissed to the front of the school, students riding a bus are dismissed to the back of the school.

Drop Off/Pick Up during the school day:

    • If a student is being dropped off at school, they can enter the building through the front entrance and sign in to school without a parent/guardian present.

    • If a student is being picked up to leave early, an authorized adult (generally a parent/guardian) must be present to sign the student out.  All individuals removing a student from school must be prepared to show ID and be an authorized individual for student pick-up.

    First Day Student Procedures:

As students enter the building from the front or back drop-off locations they will:

    • walk to the cafeteria lines for breakfast if they have need it for the morning
    • find thier name listed alphabetically on the first period schedule posters in the main hall located at 3 different locations (front entrance area, library windows and by the bus loop entrance)
    • Students may then head to their first period class where they will receive instruction and thier schedule
    • If any student is missing a period on thier schedule - they will go to room B 101 during that period to meet with counselors and administrators to resolve the issue.

Open House DATE CHANGE - Sept 12th @ 6:00 pm

Parents and students will be get an opportunity to meet teachers and follow their child's schedule on Sept. 6th. We look forward to having everyone join us!

    Gym Floor Update:

Our brand new gym floor and bleachers will be available for use on Thursday, possibly Friday of this week. We were delayed two weeks due to high humidity levels during installation. Students in athletics, pre-athletics and P.E. will be reviewing expectations in the cafeteria or the fieldhouse areas while the floor cures.

    School Safety Information:

We are very fortunate to have a school resource office (Zena Bryant) and a security officer on our campus. Administrators work with them daily to do exterior and interior door checks. We are waiting on a computer kiosk upfront that will help ramp up security even further by having a faster check-in for visitors and ensuring they are all in our raptor system if emergencies should occur. We are also waiting on electronic access from the front office to the front doors so we can do a visual check when visitors are coming in to the building. All interior doors are to remained lock during the school day as well. We are entering full year 1 using the Raptor Alert App to ensure all students, staff and visitors are accounted for during drills and emergeny situations.

    P.T.O. Dates this Year:

These dates have been added to our new campus event calendar, which is almost ready. Here are this year's PTO meeting dates. All meetings start at 5:30 and will be held in Room B 101 at PMS.

    Aug. 31st, Sept. 28th, Oct. 19th, Nov. 9th, Dec. 7th, Jan. 18th, Feb. 22nd, March 21st, April 18th.

    Personnel Changes and Updates:

Coach Alicia Ramirez has started a new journey at Dessau Middle School as an Assistant Principal. Congrats Coach!! Due to this change, we welcome Girls Athletic Coordinator, Gyaisha Howard! She is coming to us with experience and a huge heart for students.

    8th Grade ELA/Reading Intervention Long-Term Position:

We are fortunate to only have one position requiring a substitute to start the year as many campuses still have multiple vacancies. We have found a replacement, who will begin in late October and is extremely qualified and joining the staff with close to 30 years of experience. Our new Instructional Coach will be supporting this position as well, in order to ensure instruction is happening at the highest level possible without a certified teacher.

TEA Changes to Project Lead The Way (Gateway 1 and 2):

If your student selected a Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Gateway elective course for the 2023-2024 school year. The state has determined the Gateway courses will no longer award high school credit, and the courses have been removed from the state innovative course approval list. For the 2023-2024 school year PfISD will continue to offer the PLTW Gateway courses as a local middle school grade 7-8 elective.

If your student no longer wishes to take the PLTW Gateway course because it will not award high school credit please contact your campus counselor to discuss other elective options, pending campus availability. Eighth grade students interested in high school credit coursework are encouraged to consider Fundamentals of Computer Science, a year-long course introducing problem-solving and reasoning skills through digital citizenship, technology operations, and basic coding.

If your student wishes to remain enrolled in the PLTW Gateway course no action is required.

    School Status Continues this Year:

Panther staff will once again be communicating to families using school status regarding learning needs for students. This application has allowed us to break language and communication barriers to get information to families. Expect communication from teachers the first few weeks of school.

I truly hope everyone stays cool and safe. Please reach out directly with questions as we enter the first week of school.

    Sincerely,

    Philip Clayton

  • Panther News - Back to School Update!! (July 26th)

Posted by Philip Clayton on 7/25/2023 6:00:00 PM

    Greetings Parents and Pfamilies,

I hope you are staying cool and your kiddos have had a great summer. We are super excited about the 23-24 school year, which is coming fast. I wanted to update you all on some of the summer work our leadership team has been doing, as well as some relevant school information to keep everyone in the loop and planning ahead. Information in this blog will be sent weekly and will have important school-related information, activities and events.

We will be starting the school year with close to 800 students, possibly a few more. We have had a great summer hiring new staff members and will add 12 new panthers to our staff of about 97 total staff members. Hiring continues to be challenging with a smaller applicant pool, but we have found some amazing new staff members to join our panther team!

This past year, we made huge strides on our climate survey increasing school safety, collaboration, cultural competency and many other areas by 15-25% in specific areas. We currently maintain a C accountability rating and are working to improve that this year. This takes into account various factors related to STAAR scores only, and unfortunately does not take into account so many other important areas of the campus. We will be working hard to improve Tier 1,2 and 3 instruction to maximize student growth and I have no doubt that our current staff will push our students to improve. I will be sending more information related to our Campus Academic Advisory Council meetings throughout the year and all parents are welcome to join to learn more about our academic journey.

I was extremely proud of our leadership team this summer as we refined our campus clarity statements, created a full year calendar of school events (for parents, students and staff) and worked to make many systems and procedures more clear for students and staff. We will be sending out the calendar prior to August 15th (first day of school) as we are still making some tweaks and additions.

Here are our new Clarity Statements for the 23-24 school year. These are our "big rocks" that we are committed to and which priorities will stay "tight" throughout the school year.

    Pflugerville MS Clarity Statements 2023-24

Below are important items to take note of prior to the school year starting that you will need to know. Any informationyou still have questions about please email me at philip.clayton@pfisd.net and I will respond promptly.

7th Grade Student Vaccinations (REQUIRED for SCHOOL ATTENDANCE FOR ALL 7th GRADERS)

Rising 7th grade parents, I sent a reminder in June through schoolstatus about vaccination requirements for all 7th grade students. Here is the information again below:

    Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

We are looking forward to next school year for all of our students who will be entering 7th Grade! One of the ways we can make to transition smoother is to make sure that we have all of their immunization records up to date. All children attending 7th Grade in Texas must be in compliance with the state’s current immunization requirements.

We realize that many of your children may have already received the immunizations. If so, please email an updated record to shots@pfisd.net as soon as possible.

The following vaccinations are required for all 7th Grade students:

    ~Meningococcal (MCV4) – 1 dose is required

~Tdap – A booster dose given within the last 5 years.

Thank you for assisting us to keep all of your child’s health records up-to-date so that they can have a great start to next year!!

    * During the summer send all shot records to shots@pfisd.net

First Day of School - August 15th:

We will welcome all students back on campus on August 15th. Our first bell rings at 8:15 am sharp! Here are the bell schedules for the regular school day, 2 hour delay and early release (Dec/May only).

    PMS Bell Schedules:2023-24

    Student Schedules for 23-24:

We are working to accept schedules when counselors get back on contract close to July 27th. Once that happens, I will let you know when schedules are viewable a couple of days later. Please be patient with our counselors this year as we have lost one of our allocations for counseling positions due to budget constraints. This year, we will have two counselors splitting 6th grade as Ms. Soto took a position in Round Rock. Here are how counselors will serve students for this upcoming school year.

Linked below is our Student Dress Code, which was updated in 2021. Please help us to ensure your child is following this accordingly each day. The 2 offenses we see most frequently are related to students wearing their hoodies on their heads inside the building and with short shirts that expose the midriff area.

    • A shirt that touches the waistband in the front, back, and on the sides under the arms

    PfISD Student Dress Code

    Student ID's:

During the first two weeks of school, we will be taking pictures for student ID's during advisory classes. Once we have all pictures taken, ID's will be delivered to students with a brand new panther lanyard to be worn each day on campus. Replacement ID's will be $5 throughout the school year. Student ID's will be checked each morning at the front and rear entry locations upon student arrival. We are working on a plan for our 6th graders in attendance at 6th grade camp to get pictures taken on Aug. 4th. All other 6th graders will have their picture taken during the first 2 weeks of school.

    Greetings Panther Pfamilies!!

We are excited to start the school year this Thursday, August 12th. We will be continuing to strive for excellent customer service this year, that truly reflects the "panther pride" we expect from students and staff on campus. Our enrollment is growing by the day and I will report back as school starts where some of enrollment numbers fall next week. We are projected at 930 students and that seems to be the case at the moment. I know that there are some concerns about COVID Protocols and like last year, we are adapting to provided guidelines. Below is information on "things to know" before the school year starts.

Return to Learn Protocols: We have adapted the PfISD "Return to Learn" plan to work to fit our campus and will be following the outline provided PfISD Return to Learn. This will help you see where we are at in regards to: Arrival/Dismissal, Cafeteria Protocols, Classroom Procedures, Disinfecting, Hallways, Handwashing, Health Screenings and Isolation Protocols.

Student Schedules: Counselors are working to ensure schedules are accurate as possible on the first day of school.

  • Information for April 22nd

Posted by Philip Clayton on 4/22/2021

    April 22nd

    Good Afternoon Panther Pfamilies!

Our students and teachers have been putting in a great deal of work and have adapted very well to so many changes this school year. Kudos to our entire staff and student body for demonstrating such great resilience in a climate of virtual, hybrid, and in-person instruction, coupled with wearing masks and social distancing. I’m very proud of our staff and kiddos. We have just over a month of school left and are getting close to 60% of our students attending in-person. Despite the growth, our students are continuing to demonstrate safety and school pride in a really strong way. I just wanted to check-in and touch base with everyone on a few reminders and new items listed below.

    STAAR TESTING updates:

7th Grade STAAR testing is next Tuesday, April 27th! Virtual testers should have been sent an email confirming that your child is signed up and will be taking the exam in person on campus.

If you did sign up using the google form but have not gotten an email confirmation, please email ruth.yamaguchi@pfisd.net or call 512 594-2000.

If you have not signed up already and received a direct response from Mrs. Yamaguchi, your child will not be able to test for 7th grade writing next week. The reason for this is that planning for students to test in person involves prearranged testing groups, preparing for student accommodations, and pre-screened/arranged test tickets.

Registration Requirements - Important: Online verification for returning students is now available online through the Skyward Parent Portal.  Parents/Guardians need to complete the Student Verification and Student Health Forms for the 2021-2022 school year. Please call the campus @ 594-2037 if you need help accessing this through skyward.

    • All incoming 6th grade students MUST provide proof of residency.  Proof of residency includes a copy of your mortgage statement or lease agreement AND a current utility bill.

    • If you have had a change of address, you must upload proof of residency.

    • If you need a Skyward Parent Portal account, please contact the Registrar at Laceidra.moten@pfisd.net

PMS Pet Clinic - May 5th, 5 - 7 p.m. Come out and join us for quick and easy pet vaccinations and other pet services listed on the flyer. Masks are required and social distancing is encouraged.

Virtual Book Fair: Thanks to those of you that have purchased books already! Our book fair is still available online until April 25th. Book orders over $25 will be shipped for free and all orders are sent directly to your home this year!

Click here to check out the fair! Thanks for your support!

I hope everyone has a safe, happy and healthy Friday and weekend! Please continue to contact the campus and myself with any questions and needs you may have.

    Buenas Tardes, Familias Pantera!

  • Information from Mr. Clayton for April 1st

Posted by Philip Clayton on 4/1/2021

    April 1st, 2021

    Greetings Panther Pfamilies,

It has been another exciting week of learning and growing here at PMS. We have been heavily involved in developing our campus improvement plan, master schedule, and creative ways we can celebrate our students next year. They deserve complete recognition for their hard work and I feel like I’ve let them down in that regard this year. We are striving to improve in all areas! There are quite a few important events, dates, and other points to be aware of as we enter this student/staff holiday.

Student Holidays - April 2nd and 5th: There is no school for students tomorrow (April 2nd) or Monday (April 5th) as these are student holidays.

STAAR TESTING: PfISD campuses are required to participate in the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness, or STAAR in April and May this school year. PMS will assign students to test on dates within the window.

Students who participate in remote instruction will be contacted by campus administrators to arrange times for students to be on campus to participate. Students who are not able to be on campus will participate in remote asynchronous instruction on test dates.

As we approach the spring 2021 STAAR testing season, we are encouraging ALL students (both VIRTUAL and IN PERSON) to participate in order to gain a data specific understanding of where our students stand academically.

Being that all IN PERSON students will automatically be scheduled to participate in STAAR, this survey is for VIRTUAL students ONLY.

-----> STAAR Sign Up Survey- VIRTUAL STUDENTS ONLY

     Please note the following:

    • All IN PERSON students will be scheduled to participate in assigned STAAR administrations
    • All VIRTUAL students will be REQUIRED to "sign-up" in order to participate in assigned STAAR administrations by completing this survey no later than Friday, 4/9/2021
    • All students participating will take the online version/mode of the STAAR (some exceptions may apply)
    • All students participating will utilize their district issued Chromebook for STAAR participation (If your student has not been issued a Chromebook, please call 512-594-2000 to arrange for one to be issued.)
    • All COVID safety protocols will remain in place as to ensure the safety of all (masks, physical distancing, temperature scans, etc.)

The STAAR administration dates will be:

    • 6th-8th Grades - STAAR Alternate II (week of April 5th-April 30th)
    • 6th Grade  -Math and Reading  (week of May 17th)
    • 7th Grade - Writing  (week of April 27th)

  • Information about PTECH Academy

Posted by Philip Clayton on 3/5/2021

    Good Afternoon Parents and Guardians,

I hope you have had a great Panther week. Typically, when spring arrives we notice an increase in various behaviors at the middle school level. I am proud to report that this has not been the case thus far. I praised the 6th graders today as they departed from the cafeteria in a very orderly fashion, social distancing and wearing masks appropriately. It was the best I’ve seen all year and they typically do a really good job following our safety protocols. I was a very impressed and proud Principal today. They also received recognition over the PA system for those behaviors. For as long as I’ve been an educator, I will never underestimate the power of positive feedback and recognition for students. It is a powerful element when reinforcing behaviors.

I know the STAAR test is right around the corner and there are many questions. I will be sending information after spring break regarding timelines, scheduling, and dates. We are in the process of planning a smooth transition for all of our kiddos. Stay tuned for more information.

The information below is an opportunity for our 8th grade students for next school year regarding the PTECH academy. Please take advantage of this great opportunity for your child if you are interested! I have also included information about our Regional Science Fair Winners!!

PTECH program (Pathways through Early College High School): PfISD has partnered with Austin Community College to provide our students with a dual credit curriculum. It is a program designed for our rising 9th graders (current 8th graders) to begin high school and receive their Associates degree at a completely FREE cost to them in either Computer Programming with a C++ certification or Education with an Educational Aide I certification by the time they graduate from high school.

The Computer and Information Technology program (CIT Academy) is being housed at Connally High School and the Pfuture Teachers Academy is being housed at Weiss High School; however, it is open to any rising 9th grader, regardless of where they are districted to attend (students if accepted into the program will have to agree to transfer to Weiss for Pfuture Teachers Academy or Connally for CIT Academy). Transportation IS provided from the student’s home to their PTECH campus and back again. There are no prerequisites for students to apply. Any rising 9th grader in the district is able to be a PTECH student and the only requirement is that they fill out the application and be willing to transfer (transfers are automatically accepted for PTECH students) to the school that houses the PTECH program for which they are participating.

Here is the link to apply below:

Please reach out to Jackie Yekpabo with any questions or trouble with the links at 594-0114 or jacqueline.yekpabo@pfisd.net.

Regional Science Fair: PMS students have been outstanding the last few years at the Science Fair and this year is no different! We had 11 students in grades 6-8 that placed in 1st through 5th place in many categories. Some of them even placed in multiple categories. The areas of study were Mathematics, Plant Sciences, Microbiology, Computer Science, and Watershed Protection. Congratulations on your hard work and this achievement! Winners were announced during lunches today.

So you all know, we are continuing to focus on passionate customer service here on campus and I’ve loved that some of you all are reaching out to me directly with needs regarding your child. Please keep it up if you need anything at all. My email and phone number are below. I hope each of you have a wonderful Panther weekend!

    Buenas tardes padres y tutores,

    Good Afternoon Parents!

It’s hard to believe we have entered the month of March. This school year has seemed to fly by and slow down at times. While it has been an unusual school year, I know our processes at Pflugerville Middle School continue to improve and that is the message I have made efforts to convey to faculty, staff and students. If we can persevere through challenges and aim to keep improving, we are on the right track.

We are entering the 4th 9 weeks grading period after Spring Break. Due to some calendar changes this year, March 12th is now a student holiday and marks the beginning of Spring Break for students. Faculty and staff will be on campus on the 12th to continue planning instruction for students. Information below relates to changing your child’s Mode of Instruction officially for the 4th nine weeks and a mandatory cheerleading zoom today for those interested in joining the cheer squad.

4th Nine Weeks Mode of Instruction Change: While it must be a challenging time for families to make decisions about either virtual or in-person learning for their child, the next few days will mark an opportunity to change the mode of instruction for the 4th 9 weeks period. The google form below will allow you to change the Mode of Instruction to either virtual or in-person learning, ONLY if you need to make a change. If you are not making any changes to the learning setting for your child, there is no need to access the form.

We are leaving this form open until March 10th at 12:00 p.m. for all families to make any appropriate changes for their child’s mode of instruction, which will begin officially on March 22nd (first day of the 4th 9 weeks).

  • Information from Mr. Clayton for Feb. 23rd

Posted by Philip Clayton on 2/23/2021

    Good Afternoon Panther Community,

I know it’s been a challenging few days for all of us, but we are excited that we are getting somewhat back to normal here on campus. I have directed our staff to assess and focus on the social/emotional needs of students today and to slowly integrate classroom content starting tomorrow. The social and emotional state of our students is always important and now it is even more important than ever with our current circumstances. Below are some important items for you all to know.

Regular School Schedule Resumes Tomorrow: In-person learners will be back on campus tomorrow and our regular Synchronous and Asynchronous schedule will resume for all students. Students should check Canvas for any specific instructions from their teachers regarding classes and assignments.

Social/Emotional Survey: All students have a survey in Canvas we would like for them to complete regarding social/emotional learning. The survey will help us identify the needs of our students so we can support them; the great thing about this survey is the data functions as their voice - so we are responding to what they are saying in addition to what we are observing.

Here are links to help them complete the survey:

Homework Hotline: This will resume next Tuesday evening, March 2nd, for any students who are interested in getting some extra help with assignments, test corrections and homework. All students have information about the Homework Hotline and links posted in their student Canvas accounts. Remember that Tuesday is for Math and Science assistance and Thursday is for Language Arts and Social Studies assistance.

Additional Resources: If you still need resources to recover from recent events, which many of us do, they are below:

    FEMA Assistance: https://www.disasterassistance.gov/

    Water Resources Available:

    https://www.kxan.com/news/local/austin/free-water-available-at-10-austin-sites-on-sunday-for-residents-who-cant-purchase-or-boil-water/

Thank you for your continued support of OUR campus!! It has been a pleasure getting to know more and more of our parents this school year. Have a great Panther evening!

    Regards,
