Raising the Bar: Student Expectations at Dessau Middle School
-
At Dessau Middle School, we have high expectations for our students. We believe that every student has the potential to achieve great things, and we are committed to helping them reach their full potential.
As a student, we expect you to come to school ready to learn and to actively engage in your education. This means attending classes regularly, completing your assignments on time, and putting forth your best effort in all that you do.
We also expect our students to behave in a responsible and respectful manner. This includes treating others with kindness and respect, following school rules and policies, and taking responsibility for your actions.
We value diversity and inclusivity at Dessau Middle School. We encourage our students to embrace differences, appreciate different perspectives, and to be open-minded and accepting of others.
Finally, we expect our students to be active members of our school community. This means participating in extracurricular activities, attending school events, and contributing to our school's culture of teamwork, collaboration, and community service.
We believe that by setting high expectations for our students, we can help them achieve their full potential and prepare them for success in high school, college, and beyond. We are excited to work with you and support you on your educational journey.

Cell phones can be used in classrooms for designated instructional activities as determined by the teacher or teacher designee.
Parents should contact the front office if there is an emergency. Students should come to the front office to use the phone if there is an urgency and the student needs to contact a parent/guardian.
Teachers/staff will give students a cover-all warning at the beginning of the day as a general reminder as students are released to head to class.
1st offense - The student will turn in the phone to the teacher and it will be returned at the end of class.
2nd offense- The student will turn in the phone to the teacher and it will be returned at the end of day. The teacher will return the phone to the front office. Student Attendance of Extracurricular Events
At Dessau Middle School, we love showing school spirit. Student attendance at athletic sporting events and other after-school activities are highly encouraged. It is a great way for students to socialize and support their peers. To attend games and other after-school extracurricular events, students must:
- Have no tardies for the week (tardy checks are done weekly)
- Have no referrals/lunch detentions for the week
- Maintain responsible behavior during the game
- Be picked up within 20 minutes of the game/event ending
- Not bring backpacks into sporting events
- Have their student ID worn visibly above the waist
Students that are eligible to attend games, MUST go home at the end of the school day. Students may not wait on campus for the games to begin. This leaves students without adult supervision for 2 hours. Students MUST go home and return to the game no earlier than 5:00 pm. Any student violating this safety protocol and remaining on campus to attend the game will be denied admission into the game. A parent/guardian will be called to pick the student up. Backpacks must be left at home - backpacks are not allowed into games.

Student IDs
Secondary students are required to wear district/campus-issued student ID badges at all times during the school day. ID(s) must be worn and not kept in a backpack/purse/wallet. Students can purchase a new ID during Pfang (advisory). The price of a replacement ID is $3. If your student has misplaced their ID, please send them with $3 to purchase an ID.
We do random badge checks. Students not wearing badges could receive consequences such as a loss of privileges or lunch/after-school detentions. Without an ID, students will not be able to attend school dances or campus athletic events, and potentially lose privileges. Please remind your student to wear their badge daily. Student IDs are a part of our district and state's safety initiative.
