English as a Second Language (ESL) Program

  • The English as a Second Language (ESL) program provides intensive English language instruction by teachers trained in recognizing and working with students with diverse linguistic backgrounds. ESL teachers use the academic and cultural experiences of the student as a platform to provide instruction in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English.

Student mastery of essential knowledge and skills will be accomplished through developmentally appropriate materials and instructional strategies designed to accelerate students' development of English comprehension, communication, and academic skills.

Our district's ESL framework includes targeted instruction for English language development as well as content area instruction that is scaffolded and linguistically appropriate. The district's ESL Specialists collaborate with campus leaders and teachers to model and support best practices.
