  • Vaccine Scheduling Updates & Walk-Up Clinics

Posted by David Wiechmann on 4/22/2021

    PfISD Staff,

We have received more information from Austin Public Health Authority with exciting updates and new services available for those who are still looking to get a COVID-19 vaccine. Highlights of the updates include new hours for scheduling an appointment online, scheduling by phone, and a new walk-up clinic with no appointment needed. Also, remember that clinics that are not walk-up may now offer vaccines to 16- and 17-year-olds with parent permission, but the parent must be present.

Please read the updates from APH below. There also is information from Travis County about a Pfizer vaccine clinic at Circuit of the Americas this weekend.

    Connecting School Staff with Vaccines
Beginning this week, APH is expanding online vaccine scheduling and piloting a walk-up (no appointment necessary) option for vaccinations. The walk-up pilot program will be April 22-23 at Delco Activity Center, from noon – 7:30 p.m. It is for residents 18 years of age and older. (See more details below.) School staff are encouraged to schedule their own first dose appointments with APH online or by telephone, or to use the walk-up option this week. School staff may also seek out vaccine from another vaccine provider.

Nevertheless, the APH Schools COVID-19 Response Team stands ready to help with any specific questions you may have about vaccines for staff and to resolve any issues with second doses for staff for whom APH made first dose appointments. Feel free to contact APH at APHSchoolInfo@austintexas.gov with questions.

    Expanded Online Vaccine Scheduling
APH is currently providing the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, which is approved for use with people age 18 years and over.

APH is expanding online scheduling of vaccine appointments. You must have an account to schedule an appointment online. You can register for an account and schedule online at https://covid19.austintexas.gov. Anyone 18 years or older may log in today to join the scheduling queue. This week’s queue will end Friday, April 23 at 7 a.m.

Going forward, the appointment scheduling system will be open from 7 p.m. on Fridays to 7 a.m. the following Friday and will reopen again at 7 p.m. that evening for appointments for the following week. The 12-hour closure of the scheduling system on Fridays will allow APH to finalize the appointment schedule and update appointment times for the following week.

Click here for tips for online scheduling.

    Telephone Scheduling
If you cannot access the online scheduling system, please call 3-1-1 or 512-974-2000. Call takers can assist with technology issues, account creation, and pre-registration. For additional assistance, they will take your name and number and provide it to APH Equity Hotline for a call back.

Walk-Up Clinic at Delco Activity Center Thursday & Friday
APH is piloting a walk-up clinic on Thursday and Friday at the Delco Activity Center located at 4601 Pecan Brook Dr. in northeast Austin near LBJ Early College High School.

This clinic runs from noon to 7:30 p.m., or until vaccine doses run out, and does not require an appointment. Those looking to get vaccinated may show up with no appointment needed. For walk-up clinics, you must be 18 or older.

If all vaccine is administered before 7:30 p.m., staff and volunteers will help residents who arrive on-site schedule an appointment to return for their vaccine.

Residents are not required to pre-register in the APH system because staff and volunteers will gather information and complete the registration on-site prior to their first dose vaccination. If you’d like, you can save time by creating an account and pre-registering for the vaccine before going to the clinic at https://covid19.austintexas.gov

Click here for information on what to expect on-site for walk-up clinics

    Second Doses with APH
As a reminder, a minimum of 28 days is required for Moderna between first and second doses. Second dose appointments are automatically being scheduled by APH closer to the 28-day mark by email, text or phone call – if someone has not received an appointment, they should doublecheck their spam/junk folders. However, after 28 days, individuals can call 3-1-1 or 512-974-2000 to find the next available clinic to receive their second dose without an appointment. They must provide their CDC vaccination card that shows they have received their first dose of Moderna.

    COTA on Saturday & Sunday
This Saturday and Sunday, there will be a free COVID-19 vaccine clinic at the Circuit of the Americas offered through Travis County.

This clinic is offering the Pfizer vaccine, and we would like to remind you that the vaccine is now available to anyone aged 16 and older.

For students and family members ages 16 and 17, a parent has to be present and in the vehicle with them when they come to Circuit of the Americas for their shot. Parental consent is required for anyone aged 16 or 17 to get the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccination.

Below is the open link to register. Again, appointments are available for this coming Saturday and Sunday at COTA, 9201 Circuit of the Americas Blvd, Austin, TX 78617.

This partnership gives us the opportunity to provide approximately 1,000 vaccines to our Region 13 district educators. Attached are hard copies of the process, the Pfizer fact sheet, and a consent form. All staff will need to do is bring their consent form, ID, and insurance card and we will do the rest. The sign-up is easy to use and they just show up at least 15 minutes before their shot time.

  • APH Vaccine Clinic 03-09-21

Posted by Tamra Spence on 3/9/2021

APH has announced that they will make immunization appointments available next week for PfISD staff. The number of appointments is limited each week and is open to all Travis county public schools.

Additionally, we have been informed that Travis County may also have appointments available this coming weekend. Vaccines through APH and Travis County are open to ALL school district employees. At this time we do not have information on Travis County vaccines but we will share with staff who fill out the survey as we receive the information.

If you HAVE NOT received your first immunization and agree to NOT make an appointment to receive it through another provider, please complete the attached survey. If you plan to get a vaccine through UT Health, H-E-B, ARC, CVS etc., please do not complete this survey. Completing this survey puts you on the list for an appointment next week with APH.

APH will contact you with your appointment. We will be sending a NEW survey weekly. Due to the limited number of appointments available to PfISD staff, please keep completing the surveys until you receive your first dose. APH will be holding clinics until all eligible staff/faculty have received the first dose.  Surveys will close each Thursday at noon. https://forms.gle/LTwzsd9CeYbAtyKT7

If you are waiting on your second dose, APH will contact you with your appointment time/date/location. The district does not schedule ANY appointments, it is all through APH.

You must bring your School ID or a recent paystub to verify that you are a district employee.

APH will reach out to you directly with your appointment date/time/location.
