Bio - Mr. Alex Okafor
Mr. Alex Okafor was elected to the Pflugerville Board of Trustees in 2024.
Alex Okafor is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication. While at UT he was the captain of the football team in 2012 and earned honors throughout his career. These include the 2012 Alamo Bowl MVP, 2012 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and 2011 AFCA FBS Coaches All-American. After college he went on to the NFL and was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the 4th round of the 2013 NFL draft. He played for the Cardinals for four seasons before signing with the New Orleans Saints. After playing two seasons with the Saints, he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs and won a Super Bowl with them during the 2019 season. After playing two more seasons with the Chiefs, he decided to retire from football after playing a total of nine seasons professionally.
Since retiring from football, Alex has pursued a media career in sports. He’s currently covering the Texas Longhorn football team for KXAN. He provides the network with pregame show coverage and two weekly segments that break down plays and provide points of emphasis for upcoming games. He also hosts two football related podcasts called “Behind the Facemask” and “3rd & Longhorn.”
Alex also joined the National Board of Directors for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in 2024. Ever since his Mom passed away from Leukemia back in 2020, Alex has dedicated his life’s work to providing resources for blood cancer patients. The Alex Okafor Family Foundation awards an annual scholarship to students who have defeated blood cancers. Also, Alex helped launch the LLS Scholarship for Blood Cancer Survivors back in 2021.
Since graduating from Pflugerville Highschool, Alex has remained active throughout the Pflugerville community. He’s hosted multiple bookfairs and started the “Kingdom United” reading program at Springhill Elementary, in which he had his teammates on the Chiefs read grade level books to students. He also provides mentorship to students throughout the district in his free time.
Alex currently resides in the City of Pflugerville Extraterritorial Jurisdiction with his wife of two years. He’s passionate about speaking up for underserved communities and looks forward to providing additional support to the district’s title 1 schools. Alex understands that he wouldn’t be where he’s at without the support from this community and now he’s doing everything in his power to create opportunities for current students within the district.
