Bio - Claudia Yañez

Ms. Claudia Yañez was elected to the Pflugerville Independent School District (ISD) Board of Trustees in 2025. 

Ms. Yañez’s commitment to quality public education for every student stems from her own experience overcoming challenges she experienced as an emerging-English language learner to her professional position as the Sr. Director of Total Rewards, HR Information Systems and Operations for NerdWallet, a personal finance company. A commitment rooted in a thriving Texas public education system. She grew up in Del Rio, Texas, raised by an extended family of working class Mexican immigrants. She saw first hand the value of hard work and the difference that having access to quality public educational opportunities could make in order to create a better life. Ms. Yañez understands the transformative power of a public education in a student's life and ultimately in their families and communities. 

Ms. Yañez graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Business Administration with High Honors and a Master in Professional Accounting. She is a Certified Public Accountant with a 25 year career on the business side of the technology industry. Ms. Yañez is an experienced business leader, an adviser to corporate executives and boards, leading remote teams while managing multi-million dollar human capital programs and technology budgets. Ms. Yañez has been featured in Hispanic Executive magazine and Hispanic Stars Rising. She has earned the distinction, Fellow of Global Equity, by the Global Equity Organization, for her demonstrated leadership and contributions to the broader global employee stock ownership profession throughout her career.  As a business professional, she believes that public education is an investment in our future workforce. 

Ms. Yanez has not forgotten where she came from and believes that it’s important to give back to the community you love, that’s why she volunteers extensively in the community. She has served in leadership roles in church ministries at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church and civic groups like Moms Demand Action and League of Women Voters, where she has worked on gun violence prevention initiatives and voter empowerment actions that have resulted in hundreds of new voter registrations across Travis county and right here in Pflugerville. She is a former Chair of the Pflugerville Equity Commission where she worked to support social justice and equity issues to create a community where everyone can reach their full potential. She has completed Pflugerville 101 and Citizens on Patrol city programs, and served as a Spanish mentor with Academy 4,  providing one-on-one lessons on leadership in the Austin area. Ms. Yañez has supported the work of the Pflugerville Education Foundations as a member of the Luminary Circle of Giving. In addition, she has volunteered for her own kids’ band and athletic booster clubs over the years, from washing band uniforms to concession stand duty.

Ms. Yañez has called the City of Pflugerville home for nearly 25 years, and has been married to her high school sweetheart for nearly 27 years where they raised their three children. She is passionate about student and staff safety and wellbeing to foster an environment where everyone can thrive, career and technical education, special education, and fine arts, ensuring a well-rounded education for ALL students. She is passionate about bringing community groups together to elevate student achievement and leveraging her experience to bring new solutions and innovation to our district.
