School Health Advisory Council (SHAC)

What is SHAC?
The School Health Advisory Council is a group made up of parents, school staff, community members, and health professionals who work together to strengthen the connection between health and learning. SHAC serves in an advisory capacity to help guide the development and implementation of school health policies and programs that promote student wellness and academic success.
Beginning in the 2025–2026 school year, this law requires that each member of our SHAC be appointed by an individual member of our school board, with every trustee selecting an equal number of representatives. Members will serve one-year terms and may be reappointed, encouraging both continuity and fresh perspectives from our community. Only parents of currently enrolled students who are not district employees, or close relatives thereof, may serve in voting or leadership roles. These updates affirm the Legislature’s intent that SHACs be deeply rooted in parental input and balanced by diverse community perspectives.
