Posted by Philip Clayton on 8/8/2022 4:00:00 PM

    Greetings Panther Pfamilies,

We are super excited to welcome all of our students back on campus. As we near the start of school, here  a few items that parents and students will need to know:

Student Arrival in the Morning: students should be dropped off no earlier than 7:15 am. I will be with all students in the front of the building at 7:15 and students will line up in their grade-level specific lines throughout the year in the front of campus. Students will enter the building at 7:45 am and either go to the cafeteria for breakfast or to their grade level hallway and be seated. Students may have permission to attend special programs at various times throughout the year prior to school starting (band/choir/kickstart practice, athletics, etc.). During cold or rainy weather events, students will be seated in the cafeteria starting at 7:15 in their grade level areas.

Physical Education Needs- students will need the following for P.E. this school year by Sept. 2nd.

    • Combination Lock for Lockers
    • Blue or Black Shorts, Gray T-Shirt

Bus Arrival: Students will exit buses in the back of the school and come directly in the building to either the cafeteria for breakfast or their grade level hallways and be seated.

Dismissal: dismissal begins at 3:30 each day. We will stagger releases intentionally to reduce the number of students in the hallways at the end of the day. Students will be released onto the buses and to the front of the building, if they are walkers, bikers or car riders.

Student Schedules in Skyward: schedules are viewable in skyward. This is a busy time of year for counselors and they will be responding as quickly as they can to email. We will follow our processes for scheduling changes as school starts through a google form students can use.

Cell Phone/Airpods/Earbud Usage - cell phone and electronics usage will only be allowed prior to the first period bell at 8:15 am. All electronics should be kept put away in student backpacks unless permission is given by an adult on campus. There will be no charge for parents to come and pick up any confiscated items throughout the year.

Bell Schedule for the 22-23 School Year: PMS 22-23 Bell Schedule

School Supply List - Students will be getting their PMS agendas on the first day of school. The most important materials they will need on day one are: binders, paper, pens, pencils, highlighters.

     PMS School Supply List

Transportation - here is the link to find your child's bus information. Our ASCEND students are being routed currently, as these are very individualized routes and should be complete very soon. Transportation Link w/ contact information.

Open House - Sept. 6th: 6 pm to 8 pm - It's been a few years since the building has been open and it will be great to have families back in our newly renovated building. Come and walk through your child's schedule and meet their teachers on Sept. 6th. We will also have opportunities to join PTO and our New WatchDog Program.

Breakfast and Lunch this School Year: meals this year will be back at full cost for lunch. Breakfast will remain free this school year. Please click on the link below for information about food services and the free and reduced meal application for 22-23. Free and Reduced Meal Applications

PMS WatchDog Program - We are excited to kick-off the WatchDog program at Pflugerville MS. We are in the early stages of adopting this with a purchase order right now, but it will progress quickly, once we do. All parents participating will need to be an approved volunteer through PfISD. • Panther News and Updates - May 22nd, 2022

Posted by Philip Clayton on 5/22/2022 6:00:00 PM

    Good Evening Panther Community,

This will be a short week for students as Thursday will be our last day of school for the 21-22. We will dismiss at 12:50 on Thursday. The final events of the year are posted below, as well as end of-year reminders. Students ONLY need to turn chromebooks in for the summer if they are needing repairs, you do not want your child to have them over the summer, or you are withdrawing your child from the school district. Chromebooks will be turned in to our parent liaison, Samantha Pina this week in the library. Here is the message below:

Message to parents about Chromebooks-Ms. Pina:

    Hello PMS Parents,

We have reached the end of the year and I am sure you are anxious to know about Chromebooks. PMS is ONLY collecting Chromebooks if you are not wanting your child to have theirs over the summer and or if you are withdrawing from PFISD. That means they will have to retrieve one once school starts back in August.

Lastly, if you are withdrawing your student, this does not pertain to you as to when you withdraw the registrar will collect the computer from you.

I have set days for those who wish to turn in their Chromebooks, but please know IT IS NOT mandatory for you to turn them in.

    Monday, May 23rd- 6th Grade

    Tuesday, May 24th- 7th Grade

    Wednesday, May 25th- 8th Grade

Thursday, May 26th- ALL grade levels

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Piña at 512-594-2072.

    Thank you!

    ¡Gracias!"

    Hello Panthers!

As I began writing this blog yesterday, we had 40 8th graders at campus working on STAAR preparation. It was great to see how many students were grateful for the opportunity and glad they came to work on Algebra and Intro to Algebra skills for just a few hours. Thank you to the parents who have moved work schedules around this year to accommodate learning for students on so many Saturdays. We appreciate you very much!

I just counted and we are officially under 14 days of school left. A few reminders as we approach the end of the school year. The last day of school is May 26th and student dismissal is at 12:50, much like the end of the first semester. One thing I did leave off of the STAAR schedule last week, is AP testing on May 11th. Please reach out to Brandon Tate with questions.Students who are AP testing on May 11th this week will take their Science STAAR test on Friday, May 13th (make-up day).

It has been a challenging and rewarding school year for sure. Most rewarding things require significant challenges though, and that has been the case this year. Our Panther Students, Teachers and Staff have learned so much and I am extremely proud of the perseverance of teachers, instructional coaches, counselors, office staff, administrators, educational associates, coaches and administrators. We have a great number of staff returning and one staff member in particular I would like to mention:

Congratulations to Ms. Jessica Rocha - Pflugerville ISD Secondary Teacher of the Year !! Ms. Rocha was nominated by her peers as PMS Teacher of the Year this school year. Her passion to teach and care for students in her Science class has been noticed each year and this recognition is well deserved for 21-22. Hello Panther Community!

As I look on the calendar and if my calculations are correct, we have 19 full school days remaining in the 21-22 school year. May 26th will be a half day and students will be dismissed at 12:50 on that day. We will be ending the school year with the 8th grade advancement cermony.

It has been a true joy seeing students show growth in so many areas, both socially and academically this school year. Although I am proud of what we've accomplished as a campus this year, the things we have learned are guiding the adjustments and improvements for the 22-23 school year. The idea of future growth and development from what has been learned this year, is tremendously exciting.

The below information is very important and has details about dates, times and events happening in May. Some of this requires action from students and families. Any new information I receive moving forward, will be sent out at various times and not only Sunday evenings.

May 5th - Chromebook Check-In: during 2nd period on Thursday, teachers will be checking student chromebooks via serial number to ensure all students have their assigned chromebook. The district wants to account for chromebooks needing repair and to verify your child has the assigned chromebook for inventory purposes. Please make sure your child has their chrome book on campus on May 5th. If your child is absent on this day, please ensure they bring it on the following Friday or Monday.

Library Book Returns due May 13th: Attention Panthers and Panther Parents! All library books are due back to the PMS Library by Friday, May 13.

Books from other PfISD campuses can also be turned into PMS. Students and parents will begin receiving emails about overdue books every Tuesday so that we can ensure we get all books back before summer. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Mrs. Russell in the PMS Library!

This Google form will create and email a copy of the permission letter to you and to your student’s science teacher.

If you have previously filled out this form, there is no need to fill it out again. 8th graders will begin this instruction in May.

    Greetings Panther Pfamilies!!

We are excited to start the school year this Thursday, August 12th. We will be continuing to strive for excellent customer service this year, that truly reflects the "panther pride" we expect from students and staff on campus. Our enrollment is growing by the day and I will report back as school starts where some of enrollment numbers fall next week. We are projected at 930 students and that seems to be the case at the moment. I know that there are some concerns about COVID Protocols and like last year, we are adapting to provided guidelines. Below is information on "things to know" before the school year starts.

Return to Learn Protocols: We have adapted the PfISD "Return to Learn" plan to work to fit our campus and will be following the outline provided PfISD Return to Learn. This will help you see where we are at in regards to: Arrival/Dismissal, Cafeteria Protocols, Classroom Procedures, Disinfecting, Hallways, Handwashing, Health Screenings and Isolation Protocols.

Student Schedules: Counselors are working to ensure schedules are accurate as possible on the first day of school.

You have truly made this school year amazing through your support, communication, questions and desire to grow our campus for all of OUR kiddos. Thank you!!

• Information for April 22nd

Posted by Philip Clayton on 4/22/2021

    April 22nd

    Good Afternoon Panther Pfamilies!

Our students and teachers have been putting in a great deal of work and have adapted very well to so many changes this school year. Kudos to our entire staff and student body for demonstrating such great resilience in a climate of virtual, hybrid, and in-person instruction, coupled with wearing masks and social distancing. I’m very proud of our staff and kiddos. We have just over a month of school left and are getting close to 60% of our students attending in-person. Despite the growth, our students are continuing to demonstrate safety and school pride in a really strong way. I just wanted to check-in and touch base with everyone on a few reminders and new items listed below.

    STAAR TESTING updates:

7th Grade STAAR testing is next Tuesday, April 27th! Virtual testers should have been sent an email confirming that your child is signed up and will be taking the exam in person on campus.

If you did sign up using the google form but have not gotten an email confirmation, please email ruth.yamaguchi@pfisd.net or call 512 594-2000.

If you have not signed up already and received a direct response from Mrs. Yamaguchi, your child will not be able to test for 7th grade writing next week. The reason for this is that planning for students to test in person involves prearranged testing groups, preparing for student accommodations, and pre-screened/arranged test tickets.

Registration Requirements - Important: Online verification for returning students is now available online through the Skyward Parent Portal.  Parents/Guardians need to complete the Student Verification and Student Health Forms for the 2021-2022 school year. Please call the campus @ 594-2037 if you need help accessing this through skyward.

    • All incoming 6th grade students MUST provide proof of residency.  Proof of residency includes a copy of your mortgage statement or lease agreement AND a current utility bill.

    • If you have had a change of address, you must upload proof of residency.

    • If you need a Skyward Parent Portal account, please contact the Registrar at Laceidra.moten@pfisd.net

PMS Pet Clinic - May 5th, 5 - 7 p.m. Come out and join us for quick and easy pet vaccinations and other pet services listed on the flyer. Masks are required and social distancing is encouraged.

Virtual Book Fair: Thanks to those of you that have purchased books already! Our book fair is still available online until April 25th. Book orders over $25 will be shipped for free and all orders are sent directly to your home this year!

Click here to check out the fair! Thanks for your support!

I hope everyone has a safe, happy and healthy Friday and weekend! Please continue to contact the campus and myself with any questions and needs you may have.

    Buenas Tardes, Familias Pantera!

  • Information from Mr. Clayton for April 1st

Posted by Philip Clayton on 4/1/2021

    April 1st, 2021

    Greetings Panther Pfamilies,

It has been another exciting week of learning and growing here at PMS. We have been heavily involved in developing our campus improvement plan, master schedule, and creative ways we can celebrate our students next year. They deserve complete recognition for their hard work and I feel like I’ve let them down in that regard this year. We are striving to improve in all areas! There are quite a few important events, dates, and other points to be aware of as we enter this student/staff holiday.

Student Holidays - April 2nd and 5th: There is no school for students tomorrow (April 2nd) or Monday (April 5th) as these are student holidays.

STAAR TESTING: PfISD campuses are required to participate in the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness, or STAAR in April and May this school year. PMS will assign students to test on dates within the window.

Students who participate in remote instruction will be contacted by campus administrators to arrange times for students to be on campus to participate. Students who are not able to be on campus will participate in remote asynchronous instruction on test dates.

As we approach the spring 2021 STAAR testing season, we are encouraging ALL students (both VIRTUAL and IN PERSON) to participate in order to gain a data specific understanding of where our students stand academically.

Being that all IN PERSON students will automatically be scheduled to participate in STAAR, this survey is for VIRTUAL students ONLY.

-----> STAAR Sign Up Survey- VIRTUAL STUDENTS ONLY

     Please note the following:

    • All IN PERSON students will be scheduled to participate in assigned STAAR administrations
    • All VIRTUAL students will be REQUIRED to "sign-up" in order to participate in assigned STAAR administrations by completing this survey no later than Friday, 4/9/2021
    • All students participating will take the online version/mode of the STAAR (some exceptions may apply)
    • All students participating will utilize their district issued Chromebook for STAAR participation (If your student has not been issued a Chromebook, please call 512-594-2000 to arrange for one to be issued.)
    • All COVID safety protocols will remain in place as to ensure the safety of all (masks, physical distancing, temperature scans, etc.)

The STAAR administration dates will be:

    • 6th-8th Grades - STAAR Alternate II (week of April 5th-April 30th)
    • 6th Grade  -Math and Reading  (week of May 17th)
    • 7th Grade - Writing  (week of April 27th)
    • 7th Grade - Math and Reading (week of May 17th)
    • 8th Grade - Science, History (starts Week of May 12th)
    • 8th Grade - Reading, Math & Algebra I EOC (week of  May 17th)

More specific information will be shared with all as we proceed. Please call 512-594-2000 should there be any questions or concerns.

Credit By Exam Registration: Deadline April 15th

The end of the year CBE (Credit By Exam) testing window is May 3,2021  – May 28,2021. The registration deadline is April 15,2021. If you are interested in testing, please contact your Grade Level Counselor (maria.baughman@pfisd.net)  for a registration form. The grade levels for this testing window is K – 12th grade.  The district is no longer offering at-home CBE testing (Proctorio).  If students want to take a CBE through our district offerings, students must come to campus to test at the time designated by the campus in the windows set by the district.  Students should review the Study Guides provided by UT in the link below prior to signing up for testing.  This review can help students and parents determine if there is a need for acceleration.  They can also consult with their classroom teacher(s) for additional feedback on whether acceleration is needed.

8th Grade Parents: Big Decisions Course

The Big Decisions course for 8th grade will begin in May. The information letter and the opt-out form are linked below. Please use this link to the video of the Big Decisions Parent Information Meetings held in December to access additional details about the course and answers to parent questions.

If you do not want your student to take this course and choose to opt-out, please submit an opt-out form (below) as soon as possible. The Google form will email a copy of the opt-out letter to you and to your student’s teacher.

  • Information about PTECH Academy

Posted by Philip Clayton on 3/5/2021

    Good Afternoon Parents and Guardians,

I hope you have had a great Panther week. Typically, when spring arrives we notice an increase in various behaviors at the middle school level. I am proud to report that this has not been the case thus far. I praised the 6th graders today as they departed from the cafeteria in a very orderly fashion, social distancing and wearing masks appropriately. It was the best I’ve seen all year and they typically do a really good job following our safety protocols. I was a very impressed and proud Principal today. They also received recognition over the PA system for those behaviors. For as long as I’ve been an educator, I will never underestimate the power of positive feedback and recognition for students. It is a powerful element when reinforcing behaviors.

I know the STAAR test is right around the corner and there are many questions. I will be sending information after spring break regarding timelines, scheduling, and dates. We are in the process of planning a smooth transition for all of our kiddos. Stay tuned for more information.

The information below is an opportunity for our 8th grade students for next school year regarding the PTECH academy. Please take advantage of this great opportunity for your child if you are interested! I have also included information about our Regional Science Fair Winners!!

PTECH program (Pathways through Early College High School): PfISD has partnered with Austin Community College to provide our students with a dual credit curriculum. It is a program designed for our rising 9th graders (current 8th graders) to begin high school and receive their Associates degree at a completely FREE cost to them in either Computer Programming with a C++ certification or Education with an Educational Aide I certification by the time they graduate from high school.

The Computer and Information Technology program (CIT Academy) is being housed at Connally High School and the Pfuture Teachers Academy is being housed at Weiss High School; however, it is open to any rising 9th grader, regardless of where they are districted to attend (students if accepted into the program will have to agree to transfer to Weiss for Pfuture Teachers Academy or Connally for CIT Academy). Transportation IS provided from the student’s home to their PTECH campus and back again. There are no prerequisites for students to apply. Any rising 9th grader in the district is able to be a PTECH student and the only requirement is that they fill out the application and be willing to transfer (transfers are automatically accepted for PTECH students) to the school that houses the PTECH program for which they are participating.

Regional Science Fair: PMS students have been outstanding the last few years at the Science Fair and this year is no different! We had 11 students in grades 6-8 that placed in 1st through 5th place in many categories. Some of them even placed in multiple categories. The areas of study were Mathematics, Plant Sciences, Microbiology, Computer Science, and Watershed Protection. Congratulations on your hard work and this achievement! Winners were announced during lunches today.

So you all know, we are continuing to focus on passionate customer service here on campus and I’ve loved that some of you all are reaching out to me directly with needs regarding your child. Please keep it up if you need anything at all. My email and phone number are below. I hope each of you have a wonderful Panther weekend!

    Buenas tardes padres y tutores,

    Good Afternoon Parents!

It’s hard to believe we have entered the month of March. This school year has seemed to fly by and slow down at times. While it has been an unusual school year, I know our processes at Pflugerville Middle School continue to improve and that is the message I have made efforts to convey to faculty, staff and students. If we can persevere through challenges and aim to keep improving, we are on the right track.

We are entering the 4th 9 weeks grading period after Spring Break. Due to some calendar changes this year, March 12th is now a student holiday and marks the beginning of Spring Break for students. Faculty and staff will be on campus on the 12th to continue planning instruction for students. • Information from Mr. Clayton for Feb. 23rd

Posted by Philip Clayton on 2/23/2021

    Good Afternoon Panther Community,

I know it’s been a challenging few days for all of us, but we are excited that we are getting somewhat back to normal here on campus. I have directed our staff to assess and focus on the social/emotional needs of students today and to slowly integrate classroom content starting tomorrow. The social and emotional state of our students is always important and now it is even more important than ever with our current circumstances. Below are some important items for you all to know.

Regular School Schedule Resumes Tomorrow: In-person learners will be back on campus tomorrow and our regular Synchronous and Asynchronous schedule will resume for all students. Students should check Canvas for any specific instructions from their teachers regarding classes and assignments.

Social/Emotional Survey: All students have a survey in Canvas we would like for them to complete regarding social/emotional learning. The survey will help us identify the needs of our students so we can support them; the great thing about this survey is the data functions as their voice - so we are responding to what they are saying in addition to what we are observing.

Here are links to help them complete the survey:

Homework Hotline: This will resume next Tuesday evening, March 2nd, for any students who are interested in getting some extra help with assignments, test corrections and homework. All students have information about the Homework Hotline and links posted in their student Canvas accounts. Remember that Tuesday is for Math and Science assistance and Thursday is for Language Arts and Social Studies assistance.

Additional Resources: If you still need resources to recover from recent events, which many of us do, they are below:

    FEMA Assistance: https://www.disasterassistance.gov/

    Water Resources Available:

    https://www.kxan.com/news/local/austin/free-water-available-at-10-austin-sites-on-sunday-for-residents-who-cant-purchase-or-boil-water/

Thank you for your continued support of OUR campus!! It has been a pleasure getting to know more and more of our parents this school year. Have a great Panther evening!
