    Good Evening Panther Community,

I hope everyone has enjoyed some true Fall Weather this weekend. We are excited for everyone to come out to our PMS Pfall Pfest on Friday, October 29th. We will have a trunk or treat activity starting at 5:30 and quite a few booths/tables for the community to see the tremendous student learning happening at Pflugerville Middle School. Our KickStart program will be doing some demonstrations and our amazing Panther Band will be playing as well. Another attraction, will be me sitting in a dunk tank, if anyone feels like taking a few throws to see me take a splash. All activities, games and concessions will be cash only for this event.  We are excited to have families come out and enjoy these festivities and hang out for our feature outdoor movie, "Monster House".

Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer!

Tax Rate Election:  Please read the important information below about the Tax Rate Election on November 2nd.

The PfISD Board of Trustees has unanimously approved calling for a tax-rate election that would provide an additional $7.1 million in funding while still reducing PfISD property owners’ tax rate to the lowest rate in 21 years.

The purpose of a Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election is to ask the community to consider approving a tax rate to maximize state funding. The State of Texas gives school districts the ability to adopt 3 "Golden" pennies which maximizes state funding and cannot be recaptured by the State. The last time PfISD held a TRE was in 2018 which was approved by voters and netted the district an additional $4.1 million dollars from the state. The Voter Approved Tax Rate Election on November 2, 2021, would allow PfISD to adopt the last two pennies and net an additional $7.1 million in funding. Just to clarify, this is not a bond.

Here is a brief video that explains VATRE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1VFemJeLuA&t=1s

Additionally, here is the link to the district page that explains VATRE: https://www.pfisd.net/Page/8422#calendar11056/20211013/month

As you watch this presentation you might have questions and wonderings so we will provide opportunities for you to join us via a learning community webinar where this information will be shared live and opportunities for question and answers will be provided.

The dates, time, and links are below for the webinar.

    Good Evening Panther Pfamilies,

We are drawing near the end of the 9 weeks with only a couple of weeks remaining in the grading period. It is crunch time for kiddos to be checking their grades and following up on assignments that are nearing their due date. As we partner together through the year, please encourage students to take the initiative to stay on top of thier academics each week. I have seen students do very well this year transitioning back to an in-person organizational system and I have seen some students struggle. We have been stressing the importance of organization and following through on deadlines as preparation for post-secondary education and vocational goals in the future for our panthers. We are asking that once a week, you take a few minutes to sit with your kiddo and check grades and assignments in Skyward. We recently had our first Campus Academic Advisory Council meeting and the parents in attendance attributed this action as an important reason for student success. Here are a few tips and some things to take advantage of moving forward.

You may also reach out directly to the teacher. Please keep in mind that teachers are serving 100-150 students a day and that if there is not a time on Friday, we will accommodate parents and find a time that works on a different day.

Posted by Philip Clayton on 9/26/2021 7:00:00 PM

    Greetings Panther Community,

I truly hope everyone has had a safe and peaceful weekend, enjoying the cooler weather marking the beginning of Fall. I want to give a huge shout out to all of our Panther staff from this past week. I have seen a high level of resilience from teachers and staff working to adjust to more students in the building and that resilience has translated to the students as well. Students continue to acclimate to new routines and procedures and I can see it as their focus on learning grows day by day. We have another busy week ahead of us. Below is a list of important reminders and also some "positive highlights" from our teachers around campus.

Yearbook Portrait Day on Tuesday - September 28th : If you are interested in ordering your student’s portrait for the 2021-2022 school year, click the link below. All students were sent home with a paper form on Friday if you would like to send it back tomorrow or Tuesday. Online Order link for Pflugerville MS:

    https://vando.imagequix.com/g1000879173#login

TEA BOY Testers: If your child did not take the STAAR test last Spring, they will be testing after lunches throughout the week. Their performance on this assessment, will determine if they need 30 hours of accelerated instruction for the remainder of the school year. Here is the schedule each day:

Monday - 6th grade Science, 8th grade Writing

Tuesday - 6th grade Math, 8th grade Reading

    Wednesday - 7th grade Math

Thursday - 8th grade Math, 7th grade Reading

    Friday - 6th grade Reading

    Teacher Celebrations to Share:

    From Mr. Alford's Classes:

Students from Mr. Alford's class are taking pride in their building and learning what it means to maintain their school. Several students and parents have also donated supplies to aid in the glow up for the school. Several areas of the school have been cleared of trash and weeds as step one in our campus beautification project.

    From Ms. Bartlett's Classes:

6th grade ELA have been working on Character traits and Making Inferences in preparation for our Short Stories that we will be writing next week! Students are excited about creating their own relatable characters, plot, and using sensory/imagery language to "SHOW" their readers instead of just tell them a story! Great writers week happens next week! Stay tuned to be entertained!

    From Mrs. Gerstner's Classes:

Mrs. G. used to dread the clicking of keyboards because students would most assuredly be playing games.  Recently it has become music to her ears due to the fact that students are clicking away, typing  to answer writing prompts in her class!  As one of the 6th grade ELA teachers, she loves the excitement for learning and writing by her students! Yay, 6th grade Wonders!

    From Ms. Knapek's Classes:

In Resource ELA, all students are getting time to read each week!  It is refreshing that reading for pleasure is being seen as a piece of the bigger literature picture!

From Mrs. Russell in the Library:

The library is BOOMING! It's been wonderful to see kiddos in the library again. Since the first day of school, we have had 1,869 checkouts, 24 holds placed, and 1873 individual student visits!! We have also had 42 class visits for both orientation and check-outs. If parents would like to support the library, they can visit our Amazon wishlist at

    Amazon Wish List

I hope you all have a great end to your weekend. Please don't hesitate to reach out with questions this week if you need anything at all. Thank you parents for your continued support!!

  • Panther Weekly Update -9/19/2021

Posted by Philip Clayton on 9/19/2021 7:00:00 PM

    Greetings Panther Parents and Community,

Let me start off by saying how proud I am of so many students this past week. The Panther Staff has  reached out to students to be advocates for their Campus Community and report any suspicious behavior in regards to any issues in the restroom and the recent TikTok videos encouraging theft or destruction in public school bathrooms. I am a very Proud Principal today as I send this message. Students have helped us keep bathrooms safe and in tact throughout the week. We have encouraged students that if they see something, say something, and they have. Student reports have allowed us to time stamp these minor issues, review camera footage and follow up with mischievous behavior.  Two weeks ago, we had a small number of students take the soap bag out of the dispenser, poke holes in it and then put it in a urinal or toilet. This latest TikTok trend is another reminder for me as a parent, that my conversations with my own child, are crucial during this time in relation to what he views on his phone, how I monitor his phone and my conversations with him each day. This is a challenge for all of us as we guide our Panther students and children to make safe and positive choices each day. We can and will make a difference together as a community.

Here are some updates, reminders and information for the week(s):

A Note from the Art Deparment - Fabric Needed!   Art 1 will soon have a sewing machine available.  Have any fabric you’d like to clear out of your stash?  Consider donating to our class!  1 yard pieces preferred, but welcome any size scraps. Please send any fabric with students or drop them off at the front office.

TEA BOY Screener Administered - Week of Sept. 27th-Oct. 1st - per House Bill 4545, students who did not take the STAAR assessment last year will take this screener. Due to varying grade levels and content area assessments, these will be administered throughout the week 9/27-10/1. Students who do not meet the Approaches target on these assessments, will be required to have 30 hours of accelerated instruction in the corresponding assessment.

PTO Selling Panther Shirts and Hoodies: Over the next few weeks, PTO will be selling shirts and hoodies at  home volleyball and football games. Here are the schedules for both. This is also a great time to talk with PTO members and join the Panther PTO team.

CASH only accepted - Shirts $5 and Hoodies are $20

Sales begin at the volleyball game this week! 9/23

Lady Panther Volleyball Schedule: Please see this year's 21-22 Lady Panther Volleyball Schedule for 7th and 8th grade - 21-22 Lady Panther Volleyball Schedule

Panther Football Schedule: Here is the schedule for this year's 7th and 8th grade football games - Panther Football Schedule 2021

Campus Academic Advisory Council - our first meeting will be on Monday, September 27th @ 5:00 pm on Zoom. If you would like to join our CAAC this year, please reach out to me via email philip.clayton@pfisd.net. I will send all members a zoom invite next week. Things we will review include, but are not limited to:

    • Campus Accountability Ratings for 2020-2021 & 2018-2019

    • Academic Performance for 2020-2021

    • CIP Performance Objectives for 2021-2022

    • Present Targeted Improvement Plan for 2021-2022 & solicit input

Parents, thank you for all your continued support this school year. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any needs as the year continues. Have a great evening.

    Sincerely,

    Philip Clayton

  • Weekly Panther News and Updates

Posted by Philip Clayton on 9/12/2021 6:00:00 PM

    Good Evening Panther Pfamilies,

We are already one month in to the school year and students and staff are responding in a great way. It is always comforting to see kiddos begin to settle in to routines and get familiar with how everything works around campus. Our volleyball and football teams are off to a strong start with multiple victories among our 7th and 8th grade teams. Our theatre students are practicing and rehearsing for the upcoming one act play. Our choir and band students are performing in modified instructional locations, but persevering none the less and thriving each day. The new Fine Arts facility is scheduled for completion in November!  It is exciting to see students return with lots of energy this school year.

Here are some updates we want you to know about moving forward:

Chromebook Notes: All students have needed and will need their chromebooks each day for instruction. Please remind them to bring their chromebooks, chargers and keep them charged for the start of school each day. We are using the adaptive version of Freckle for student intervention and acceleration in Math and Reading starting this week during advisories and it it will be guided by the teacher through the on-line platform. While students do not use the chromebook for every lesson throughout the day, it is still needed for certain modes of learning daily.

Canvas Assignment Expectations during Self-Quarantine Days: Parents, if your child is self-quarantined, all assignments in Canvas should be worked on and completed during the absence. If your child is ill during this time, assignments will be due upon returning to campus and present attendance has matched the number of days absent. If there are any questions or challenges with the content, students should check-in with the teacher and posstibly attend tutorials.

Tutorial/LEAP Time Schedule: tutorials are available after school from 3:45-4:15. Here are the opportunities for your child if they need it:

    LEAP Schedule

    Monday – Math

    Tuesday-  SS/Science

    Wednesday-  NO LEAP

    Thursday-  Reading/ELA

Elective tutorials are held in the morning/afterschool by appointment. Students will be released to their  first period class.

    Lady Panther Volleyball This Week:

    • 8th Grade - @ Cele MS PMS vs Bohls Wednesday Sept. 15th @ 5:30
    • 7th Grade - Thursday, Sept. 16th Home game vs Bohls @ 5:30

Panther Football has a Bye this week and do not play.

I hope everyone has had a happy and healthy weekend. Please reach out directly this week with any needs that you may have. Information changes quickly and I do want you to be informed, so if you have questions, please let me know.

  • 8th Grade Football and Choir Updates

Posted by Philip Clayton on 8/30/2021 12:00:00 PM

    Panther Parents,

Please see the following changes effecting 8th Grade Boys Football this week and our Choir Instruction for this semester.

8th Grade Boys Football: Tuesday's scrimmage (8/31) and after-school practices will be cancelled this week as a precaution to reduce the spread of COVID-19 for students. Please contact Coach Gordon (jacques.gordon@pfisd.net and 594-2051) or myself with questions.

Choir Update: Please see the letter from our Choir Director, Laura Martin. Kudos to Ms. Martin and Mr. Bennett for working on solutions to keep students safe while allowing them to prepare for concerts and performances during Choir. The close proximity of students in the currrent Choir portable has been a concern since the rise in cases and high transmission rates that can occur when singing.

    COVID Rehearsal Adjustments

Please reach out to me with questions about any of these updates at any time. Have a great Panther Monday!!

    Regards,

    Philip Clayton

  • Panther Weekly Updates!!

Posted by Philip Clayton on 8/29/2021 6:00:00 PM

    Good Evening Panther Pfamilies,

I hope everyone has had a great weekend. The year is off to a very fast start! I am very proud of the staff and students and the resilience they have shown in adapting to the fast start and lots of change. Adapting to change is always important in life, but we seem to have change in higher volume the last two years. I know quite a few of you have been getting letters home in regards to close contact. We had multiple positive cases reported throughout the campus last week and we have reinstated a few protocols in regards to cleaning and sanitizing classrooms that we were practicing last year. These are not recommendations before or after each class and during lunch, these are requirements put in place in efforts to slow the spread of transmission.

Students are getting expectation reminders on the PA and during lunch daily, yet the biggest challenge is reducing students contacting students physically. Our biggest challenge right now is with our 6th grade students. Some of them missed their 5th grade school year in-person and are now in a much larger educational setting. Myself and the 6th Assistant Principal, Ms. Yamaguchi have been reviewing expectations in regards to physical contact in the hallways and throughout the day and we've seen improvement. We will continue to review these important procedures and the "why" behind them. Please continue to support us on campus and have these conversations with your kiddos as well.

Here are a few updates on events and items to complete for your child:

Skyward Parent Portal Setup: parents, if you have not set up access to review your child's grades and academic progress through the parent portal, you can do it through the link below.

Here is how to access/create your parent portal: Technology / Skyward

Open House - Wednesday Sept. 8th: Virtual Slide Deck with Staff Videos for Families - Currently only essential visitors are allowed in the building past the office area. Due to this factor, Open House will be a compilation of videos provided by each teacher and embedded in a slide deck for each family to view. I will send this slide deck next week through this blog and post it on the website as well. This will allow families to view this at any point in time after Sept. 8th as well. Every classroom teacher of record will be creating a video this week for you to view on the night of the 8th or after if you need to adjust your schedule.

Free and Reduced Lunch Applications: Although breakfast and lunch is free for all students this year, we are still required to have families sign up for free and reduced meals to maintain compliance with federal programs and services. Please complete this form below when you can.

    Free and Reduced Lunch Application

Science Department Update (via Ms. Rocha): 6th - 8th grade science students have already participated in multiple engaging labs to help them understand how the world works. It’s only been 12 days of school and they have been critically thinking since they showed up. We love to have all students engaged because this helps all of our students be successful. Hands-on learning is what will get them there. There is a little snag though, some students have not turned in their safety contracts and due to the materials and supplies in the lab they are not allowed to participate unless we have that signed form. Signatures of the child and parent are needed. Please remind your child to bring their science safety contract to their teacher so that they may participate in any lab happening in class and be successful.

Character Strong Store: last year we surveyed students regarding items they would like to purchase from our Character Strong store. Character Strong is our Social/Emotional Learning curriculum we facilitate through advisory. Students may earn Character Strong bucks through acts of kindness, encouragement and peer support throughout the school year. We will continue to reinforce positive pro social behaviors through this process.

Thank you parents for your continued support during a very trying time in education. Our community is amazing and all of you have demonstrated such kindness and understanding as a true partner for our Panther Community. Have a great evening!!

    Sincerely,

    Philip Clayton

  • Panther Updates!!

Posted by Philip Clayton on 8/21/2021 9:30:00 AM

    Greetings Pfamilies,

Here is an update on some of our upcoming events for theatre, football and volleyball. Also, please read the important information regarding self-quarantining procedures to be followed throughout the year and students in need of academic intervention.

From Mrs. Driskoll - Theatre Auditions: please click the link below for information on Theatre tryouts on August 23rd and 24th.  Theatre Auditions!! - information on this opportunity was provided to students throughout the week on campus.

Self-Quarantine Procedural Note: If you choose to self-quarantine your child after receiving a letter from me, please email joann.towle@pfisd.net to let her know that your child will be at home and then we can excuse the absence. Assignments will be posted in Canvas for your child. Please contact your child's teacher or the front office if you have academic questions during the duration of your child's quarantine.

Academic Acceleration and Intervention: Parents, we have mailed out letters to some of you in regards to academic acceleration based on your child's STAAR performance data from last school year. Some students will require more additional academic support throughout the school day and for some students, we will be developing an after-school and Saturday acceleration rotation. We have not finalized these rotations or schedules yet, however, your permission is required to provide this intervention outside of the 3(student) to 1(teacher) ratio that is recommended as this is extremely challenging to facilitate based on current staffing. This form is a TEA waiver allowing us to keep small groups to grow student learning, but not restrict us to the 3-1 ratio at given times. Please assist us in returning these signed forms as soon as possible if you agree to waive this requirement. Please email me directly with questions if you have questions about this process.

I would like to thank everyone for thier patience the last week and a half in regards to schedules and other adjustments we have been making on campus. In 20 years and at 5 different campuses, you all are the most understanding and supportive community I've had the privilege of working with. Thank you so much! Go Panthers.

  • First Week of School Update and Much More...

Posted by Philip Clayton on 8/15/2021

    Greetings Panther Parents and Pfamilies,

We had a tremendous two days of school last week. I was very impressed with our students and staff as they embraced new systems, schedules all while demonstrating a a high level of enthusiasm, kindness and compassion to one another. It has been great getting to know new faces and personalities in every grade level this school year!

Throughout the year, you will all be getting updates through this blog posting on all of our UIL and campus events.

The information below has a number of important topics related to our students and families, so please reach out to me if you have questions.

Mask Mandate: starting tomorrow, all staff and students will be required to wear a mask when on PfISD campuses. We will provide students with a mask if they do not have one, very similar to last year. Dr. Killian sent an email earlier today to staff and parents that has more information regarding this topic.

Seating Charts in Classrooms and Cafeteria: our staff will continue to develop seating charts in the classrooms and cafeteria as we did on Thursday and Friday. We will be updating these in regards to any schedule changes that occur over the next few days.

Morning Arrival: As some of you have noticed last week, we will continue to have grade level lines in the front of the school building in order to safely stagger the arrival of students as doors open at 7:50 am. For Bus Riders: Students will enter the back of the building one bus at a time each morning. Hand sanitizer is encouraged and provided during this time and also before and after each lunch.

    2021-2022 Campus Academic Advisory Council:

Parents, if you would like to join this year's CAAC team at Pflugerville Middle School, please reach out via email to me @ philip.clayton@pfisd.net. We will meet at a minimum of 4 times throughout the year and review processes, systems, data and other important aspects of Pflugerville Middle School.

House Bill 4545 - BOY Assessments and Interventions

    • 30 Hours of Accelerated Instruction: The new House Bill introduced in late July requires campuses to identify students who were not successful on one or more of the STAAR assessments (Math, Reading, Writing, Science, Social Studies) last school year, be provided with 30 hours of accelerated instruction in the aligned subject area. Our amazing staff at PMS has begun creating a plan to address this with learners, but we are only in the beginning stages of development. We will review this plan with all staff members this week in determining next steps for implementation.
    • TEA BOY Assessments for STAAR Non-Testers (2020-2021) -students who did not take one or more STAAR exam last year are required to take a Beginning of Year assessment provided by TEA and facilitated on each campus. We are working to faciliate this assessment in the next few days. Students who do not meet standard on this screener will be provided the 30 hours of accelerated instruction before, during or after the school day based on the program we are creating.

Join the Pflugerville MS PTO: Our next PTO meeting is this Thursday, August 19th @ 6 pm. Please attend if you have an interest in joining or just want to learn more about how we are working to support students and staff members this school year.

With so much going on in education right now, information seems to be changing on a dime. I will be updating the blog weekly and in some cases, twice a week as information changes or is updated. Please know that it is part of our mission and vision to partner with families and the community. Last year, we took a giant step in partnering with our parents and this year we will take an even greater leap. The questions and ideas generated by our community allow for us to make adjustments for our students and work to be even more transparent and effective as a school. Please reach out with any suggestions, concerns or questions throughout the year and if I don't have an immediate answer, I will work to get clarification and respond quickly. Thanks for all you do!!

    Greetings Panther Pfamilies!!

We are excited to start the school year this Thursday, August 12th. We will be continuing to strive for excellent customer service this year, that truly reflects the "panther pride" we expect from students and staff on campus. Our enrollment is growing by the day and I will report back as school starts where some of enrollment numbers fall next week. We are projected at 930 students and that seems to be the case at the moment. I know that there are some concerns about COVID Protocols and like last year, we are adapting to provided guidelines. Below is information on "things to know" before the school year starts.

Return to Learn Protocols: We have adapted the PfISD "Return to Learn" plan to work to fit our campus and will be following the outline provided PfISD Return to Learn. This will help you see where we are at in regards to: Arrival/Dismissal, Cafeteria Protocols, Classroom Procedures, Disinfecting, Hallways, Handwashing, Health Screenings and Isolation Protocols.

Student Schedules: Counselors are working to ensure schedules are accurate as possible on the first day of school.

  • Information for April 22nd

Posted by Philip Clayton on 4/22/2021

    April 22nd

    Good Afternoon Panther Pfamilies!

Our students and teachers have been putting in a great deal of work and have adapted very well to so many changes this school year. Kudos to our entire staff and student body for demonstrating such great resilience in a climate of virtual, hybrid, and in-person instruction, coupled with wearing masks and social distancing. I’m very proud of our staff and kiddos. We have just over a month of school left and are getting close to 60% of our students attending in-person. Despite the growth, our students are continuing to demonstrate safety and school pride in a really strong way. I just wanted to check-in and touch base with everyone on a few reminders and new items listed below.

    STAAR TESTING updates:

7th Grade STAAR testing is next Tuesday, April 27th! Virtual testers should have been sent an email confirming that your child is signed up and will be taking the exam in person on campus.

If you did sign up using the google form but have not gotten an email confirmation, please email ruth.yamaguchi@pfisd.net or call 512 594-2000.

If you have not signed up already and received a direct response from Mrs. Yamaguchi, your child will not be able to test for 7th grade writing next week. The reason for this is that planning for students to test in person involves prearranged testing groups, preparing for student accommodations, and pre-screened/arranged test tickets.

Registration Requirements - Important: Online verification for returning students is now available online through the Skyward Parent Portal.  Parents/Guardians need to complete the Student Verification and Student Health Forms for the 2021-2022 school year. Please call the campus @ 594-2037 if you need help accessing this through skyward.

    • All incoming 6th grade students MUST provide proof of residency.  Proof of residency includes a copy of your mortgage statement or lease agreement AND a current utility bill.

    • If you have had a change of address, you must upload proof of residency.

    • If you need a Skyward Parent Portal account, please contact the Registrar at Laceidra.moten@pfisd.net

PMS Pet Clinic - May 5th, 5 - 7 p.m. Come out and join us for quick and easy pet vaccinations and other pet services listed on the flyer. Masks are required and social distancing is encouraged.

Virtual Book Fair: Thanks to those of you that have purchased books already! Our book fair is still available online until April 25th. Book orders over $25 will be shipped for free and all orders are sent directly to your home this year!

Click here to check out the fair! Thanks for your support!

I hope everyone has a safe, happy and healthy Friday and weekend! Please continue to contact the campus and myself with any questions and needs you may have.

    Buenas Tardes, Familias Pantera!

  • Information from Mr. Clayton for April 1st

Posted by Philip Clayton on 4/1/2021

    April 1st, 2021

    Greetings Panther Pfamilies,

It has been another exciting week of learning and growing here at PMS. We have been heavily involved in developing our campus improvement plan, master schedule, and creative ways we can celebrate our students next year. They deserve complete recognition for their hard work and I feel like I’ve let them down in that regard this year. We are striving to improve in all areas! There are quite a few important events, dates, and other points to be aware of as we enter this student/staff holiday.

Student Holidays - April 2nd and 5th: There is no school for students tomorrow (April 2nd) or Monday (April 5th) as these are student holidays.

STAAR TESTING: PfISD campuses are required to participate in the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness, or STAAR in April and May this school year. PMS will assign students to test on dates within the window.

Students who participate in remote instruction will be contacted by campus administrators to arrange times for students to be on campus to participate. Students who are not able to be on campus will participate in remote asynchronous instruction on test dates.

As we approach the spring 2021 STAAR testing season, we are encouraging ALL students (both VIRTUAL and IN PERSON) to participate in order to gain a data specific understanding of where our students stand academically.

Being that all IN PERSON students will automatically be scheduled to participate in STAAR, this survey is for VIRTUAL students ONLY.

-----> STAAR Sign Up Survey- VIRTUAL STUDENTS ONLY

     Please note the following:

    • All IN PERSON students will be scheduled to participate in assigned STAAR administrations
    • All VIRTUAL students will be REQUIRED to "sign-up" in order to participate in assigned STAAR administrations by completing this survey no later than Friday, 4/9/2021
    • All students participating will take the online version/mode of the STAAR (some exceptions may apply)
    • All students participating will utilize their district issued Chromebook for STAAR participation (If your student has not been issued a Chromebook, please call 512-594-2000 to arrange for one to be issued.)
    • All COVID safety protocols will remain in place as to ensure the safety of all (masks, physical distancing, temperature scans, etc.)

The STAAR administration dates will be:

    • 6th-8th Grades - STAAR Alternate II (week of April 5th-April 30th)
    • 6th Grade  -Math and Reading  (week of May 17th)
    • 7th Grade - Writing  (week of April 27th)
    • 7th Grade - Math and Reading (week of May 17th)
    • 8th Grade - Science, History (starts Week of May 12th)
    • 8th Grade - Reading, Math & Algebra I EOC (week of  May 17th)

More specific information will be shared with all as we proceed. Please call 512-594-2000 should there be any questions or concerns.

Credit By Exam Registration: Deadline April 15th

The end of the year CBE (Credit By Exam) testing window is May 3,2021  – May 28,2021. The registration deadline is April 15,2021. If you are interested in testing, please contact your Grade Level Counselor (maria.baughman@pfisd.net)  for a registration form. The grade levels for this testing window is K – 12th grade.  The district is no longer offering at-home CBE testing (Proctorio).  If students want to take a CBE through our district offerings, students must come to campus to test at the time designated by the campus in the windows set by the district.  Students should review the Study Guides provided by UT in the link below prior to signing up for testing.  This review can help students and parents determine if there is a need for acceleration.  They can also consult with their classroom teacher(s) for additional feedback on whether acceleration is needed.

  • Information about PTECH Academy

Posted by Philip Clayton on 3/5/2021

    Good Afternoon Parents and Guardians,

I hope you have had a great Panther week. Typically, when spring arrives we notice an increase in various behaviors at the middle school level. I am proud to report that this has not been the case thus far. I praised the 6th graders today as they departed from the cafeteria in a very orderly fashion, social distancing and wearing masks appropriately. It was the best I’ve seen all year and they typically do a really good job following our safety protocols. I was a very impressed and proud Principal today. They also received recognition over the PA system for those behaviors. For as long as I’ve been an educator, I will never underestimate the power of positive feedback and recognition for students. It is a powerful element when reinforcing behaviors.

I know the STAAR test is right around the corner and there are many questions. I will be sending information after spring break regarding timelines, scheduling, and dates. We are in the process of planning a smooth transition for all of our kiddos. Stay tuned for more information.

The information below is an opportunity for our 8th grade students for next school year regarding the PTECH academy. Please take advantage of this great opportunity for your child if you are interested! I have also included information about our Regional Science Fair Winners!!

PTECH program (Pathways through Early College High School): PfISD has partnered with Austin Community College to provide our students with a dual credit curriculum. It is a program designed for our rising 9th graders (current 8th graders) to begin high school and receive their Associates degree at a completely FREE cost to them in either Computer Programming with a C++ certification or Education with an Educational Aide I certification by the time they graduate from high school.

The Computer and Information Technology program (CIT Academy) is being housed at Connally High School and the Pfuture Teachers Academy is being housed at Weiss High School; however, it is open to any rising 9th grader, regardless of where they are districted to attend (students if accepted into the program will have to agree to transfer to Weiss for Pfuture Teachers Academy or Connally for CIT Academy). Transportation IS provided from the student’s home to their PTECH campus and back again. There are no prerequisites for students to apply. Any rising 9th grader in the district is able to be a PTECH student and the only requirement is that they fill out the application and be willing to transfer (transfers are automatically accepted for PTECH students) to the school that houses the PTECH program for which they are participating.

Regional Science Fair: PMS students have been outstanding the last few years at the Science Fair and this year is no different! We had 11 students in grades 6-8 that placed in 1st through 5th place in many categories. Some of them even placed in multiple categories. The areas of study were Mathematics, Plant Sciences, Microbiology, Computer Science, and Watershed Protection. Congratulations on your hard work and this achievement! Winners were announced during lunches today.

So you all know, we are continuing to focus on passionate customer service here on campus and I’ve loved that some of you all are reaching out to me directly with needs regarding your child. Please keep it up if you need anything at all. My email and phone number are below. I hope each of you have a wonderful Panther weekend!

    Buenas tardes padres y tutores,

    Good Afternoon Parents!

It’s hard to believe we have entered the month of March. This school year has seemed to fly by and slow down at times. While it has been an unusual school year, I know our processes at Pflugerville Middle School continue to improve and that is the message I have made efforts to convey to faculty, staff and students. If we can persevere through challenges and aim to keep improving, we are on the right track.

We are entering the 4th 9 weeks grading period after Spring Break. Due to some calendar changes this year, March 12th is now a student holiday and marks the beginning of Spring Break for students. Faculty and staff will be on campus on the 12th to continue planning instruction for students. • Information from Mr. Clayton for Feb. 23rd

Posted by Philip Clayton on 2/23/2021

    Good Afternoon Panther Community,

I know it’s been a challenging few days for all of us, but we are excited that we are getting somewhat back to normal here on campus. I have directed our staff to assess and focus on the social/emotional needs of students today and to slowly integrate classroom content starting tomorrow. The social and emotional state of our students is always important and now it is even more important than ever with our current circumstances. Below are some important items for you all to know.

Regular School Schedule Resumes Tomorrow: In-person learners will be back on campus tomorrow and our regular Synchronous and Asynchronous schedule will resume for all students. Students should check Canvas for any specific instructions from their teachers regarding classes and assignments.

Social/Emotional Survey: All students have a survey in Canvas we would like for them to complete regarding social/emotional learning. The survey will help us identify the needs of our students so we can support them; the great thing about this survey is the data functions as their voice - so we are responding to what they are saying in addition to what we are observing.

Here are links to help them complete the survey:

Homework Hotline: This will resume next Tuesday evening, March 2nd, for any students who are interested in getting some extra help with assignments, test corrections and homework. All students have information about the Homework Hotline and links posted in their student Canvas accounts. Remember that Tuesday is for Math and Science assistance and Thursday is for Language Arts and Social Studies assistance.

Additional Resources: If you still need resources to recover from recent events, which many of us do, they are below:

    FEMA Assistance: https://www.disasterassistance.gov/

    Water Resources Available:

    https://www.kxan.com/news/local/austin/free-water-available-at-10-austin-sites-on-sunday-for-residents-who-cant-purchase-or-boil-water/

Thank you for your continued support of OUR campus!! It has been a pleasure getting to know more and more of our parents this school year. Have a great Panther evening!
