*Athletics - 7th and 8th grade students may enroll in athletics. At each grade there are teams for girls and boys, teams with ** next to them mean there are less than two teams per gender per grade. Our competition is the six other middle schools in Pflugerville ISD and three middle schools in Manor ISD. For sports that do not have both a boys and a girls team, we allow students of either gender to play. For example, football is managed by the Male Athletic Coordinator and coaching staff, but girls are allowed to play. For your convenience, we have noted which sports are not offered for both boys (B) and girls (G). There are tryouts for all sports except football; students who do not make the team remain in the athletics class. Practices for the team are held before school (7th grade) and after school (8th grade). Students on the team should expect to dedicate time outside of the school day for practice and competition.
Fall Sports: Football (B), Volleyball (G), Basketball starts (B & G), Cross Country (B & G)
Spring Sports: Basketball ends (B & G), Track & Field** (B & G), Soccer** (B & G), Golf** (B & G)
*Band - We have four bands: beginners, wind ensemble, symphonic, and honors band. Students are placed in a band by the Directors based on their performance during class and extra-curricular competition. The band participates in a football game, compete in multiple arenas, and participates in community involvement and spirit activities at KLMS and nearby elementary schools. Students should expect time commitments outside of class for practice and competition.
Cheerleading - We have one 7th and 8th grade cheerleading team. The cheerleaders act as ambassadors and help with several school activities such as welcoming teachers back, helping with Open House as guides, and helping 6th grade students during their visits and camp. The cheerleaders perform at spirit assemblies and sports competitions (football, volleyball, and basketball). Tryouts for the team are generally in the middle of the spring semester for the following year.
*Choir - We have several choirs that practice during the school day. Students are placed in a choir by the Director based on their performance during class and extra-curricular competition. The choir competes in multiple arenas and participates in community involvement and spirit activities at KLMS and nearby elementary schools. Students should expect time commitments outside of class for practice and competition.
*Kickstart Kids - Kickstart is a martial arts program designed and directed by Chuck Norris. The students practice daily in class but also compete in the fall and spring. In the spring, students can advance to the State level of competition. There is a demo team that competes and might perform at school spirit activities or at local elementary schools. Students should expect to dedicate themselves outside of the school day if they want to compete or participate in the demo team; students do not have to compete to be a part of Kickstart Kids.
National Junior Honor Society - The KLMS NJHS is an official chapter of the National Junior Honor Society program. Members are invited if they meet the qualifications established by the Faculty Council. The qualifications are reviewed and revised yearly; induction is generally in the Spring semester. Students in NJHS should plan on dedicating time outside of the school day for community service hours.
Student Council - The Student Council is club that meets before/after school. The Student Council sponsors some school spirit activities (for teacher and students), including the 8th grade dance. Students in Student Council should expect to dedicate time outside of the school day to prepare and participate in service activities.
*Theatre - We have three levels of theatre classes. We compete in the UIL One Act Play at the end of the fall semester and produce a musical in the spring semester. All students can audition for these productions, even if they are not in the class. Students competing in the One Act Play or participating in the musical should expect to dedicate time outside of the school day for rehearsal and performances. The theatre students also other performances throughout the school year.
* Activities that have a class during the students' schedule in addition to extra-curricular opportunities.
