Hendrickson HS History
-
Hendrickson High School opened its doors in 2003 and was named after longtime educator Robert E. Hendrickson of Pflugerville.
Robert Earl "Bob" Hendrickson was born on February 2, 1921, in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Bob was a coach, teacher, high school principal, and superintendent of schools in Pflugerville ISD, and he finished his educational career in Round Rock ISD. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict. He helped to create the Pflugerville Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Hendrickson was a member of a group of citizens who helped in the incorporation of the City of Pflugerville and served on the planning and zoning commission. He also served Travis County on the ARB Board. Mr. Hendrickson received his pilot's license in 1937 and flew for PATCO Air until 1947, with the exception of the war years. He was an avid pilot and bought and sold a number of planes. Many of his friends and neighbors can attest that he was a skilled artist as he gave many of his paintings to them. Of all of his accomplishments though, he was especially proud of the many students he helped educate. Mr. Hendrickson passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2003, at the age of 82.
