Brighter Bites, a program dedicated to improving community health, provides families with fresh produce and resources to help incorporate nutritious food into their meals. Each participating family received around 20 pounds of fruits and vegetables and educational materials on making healthy choices. Principal Monica Martinez emphasized the program’s focus on nutrition education and relationship-building. This initiative aligns with PfISD’s commitment to student wellness and its vision of cultivating a culture of health throughout the district.

“We want to help our students and their families make better food choices by creating positive experiences with healthy eating,” Martinez said.

PfISD is excited to support Parmer Lane Elementary in this initiative, which aims to improve the physical health of students and their families and their emotional well-being, building a stronger, healthier community.

Additionally, the grant-funded program brings in campus and community volunteers to help pack the food for distribution.

“When our families get involved in the bagging and distribution process, we’re not just handing out food – we’re building bridges and fostering conversations about the health and happiness of our children,” Martinez said.

The campus will hold its second Brighter Bites produce distribution for families on September 18.
