The Pflugerville ISD Board of Trustees approved the hiring of two key leaders during their Thursday, Sept. 18 board meeting. Brandon Evans has been named Assistant Superintendent of Operations, and Tyler Smith has been named Chief of Police for the district. Both bring extensive leadership experience and a deep commitment to student and staff safety and success.

“We are thrilled to add Brandon Evans and Tyler Smith to our leadership team,” Superintendent Dr. Quintin Shepherd said. “Their deep operational expertise, commitment to student safety, and proven leadership will be invaluable as we continue to support the growth and success of our district.”

Assistant Superintendent of Operations

Brandon Evans joins Pflugerville ISD from Leander ISD, where he most recently served as the Senior Executive Director of Operations. In this role, he provided leadership and administrative oversight for Child Nutrition Services, Custodial Services, and Transportation, managing budgets, crisis response, and operational effectiveness across the district.

Evans has also held leadership roles as Senior Director of Campus Activities and Support, Assistant Director of Student Support Services, and Principal of Wiley Middle School. In these positions, he developed and implemented district-wide safety protocols, student support systems, and operational strategies to enhance school climate and academic performance

Evans began his administrative career as an assistant principal at both Rouse High School and Vista Ridge High School, where he supervised staff, led professional development, and implemented student discipline and attendance systems.

He holds a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from American Intercontinental University and a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Science from Texas A&M University.

In his new role, Evans will oversee Facilities, Construction, Technology and Transportation for the district, ensuring the operational systems align with Pflugerville ISD’s strategic goals and growth.

Chief of Police
Tyler Smith brings more than 18 years of dynamic leadership experience in law enforcement, fire, EMS, and emergency management, including a decade overseeing direct law enforcement operations and large-scale emergency planning

Most recently, Smith has served as a Police Captain for Amarillo ISD, where he led sworn police officers in providing safety and security for 30,000 students and 5,000 employees. He developed and implemented district-wide Emergency Operations Plans across 55 campuses, managed criminal investigations, trained staff in safety and security protocols, and coordinated large-scale community events with over 10,000 participants

Previously, Smith was Faculty Program Coordinator at the Panhandle Regional Law Enforcement Academy at Amarillo College, overseeing law enforcement training and criminal justice in-service programs. He also served as Deputy Fire Marshal II with the Amarillo Fire Marshal’s Office and as a Lieutenant/EMT-Basic with the Canyon Fire Department, where he supervised criminal investigations, fire and safety inspections, and emergency medical operations

Smith holds a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences in Emergency Management from West Texas A&M University. He is a Master TCOLE Peace Officer with more than 3,300 hours of certified law enforcement training and numerous specialized certifications, including TCOLE Advanced Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Patrol Rifle Instructor, and FBI Post-Blast Investigator.

As Police Chief, Smith will lead the Pflugerville ISD Police Department in ensuring the safety and security of all students, staff, and facilities.
