Pflugerville Independent School District (PfISD) is proud to announce substantial progress in reducing chronic absenteeism among students, marking a significant achievement in attendance improvement efforts.
The district's chronic absenteeism rate decreased notably from 20% to 16% over the past year, with even greater improvement in high-needs schools, which saw a reduction from 32% to 23%. These impressive gains are largely credited to strategic initiatives by the district, including the implementation of "EveryDay Labs," a pilot program providing targeted attendance education and personalized intervention strategies.
Reflecting this success, PfISD has been invited to join the prestigious National Attendance & Engagement Meta Network. Through this network, district leaders and staff will collaborate with national experts, exchanging proven methods and data-driven practices aimed at dramatically reducing chronic absenteeism across diverse educational settings.
“We are incredibly proud of the progress we have made,” said Dr. Amanda Castro, PfISD Director of Student Affairs. “Joining this national network is an exciting opportunity to share our successes and continue learning from colleagues nationwide.”
Looking forward, PfISD will build on this momentum through district-wide systematization of attendance recovery processes, fostering deeper collaboration among campuses, and ensuring all students benefit from welcoming school environments and supportive, relationship-based interventions.
PfISD thanks our dedicated staff, families, and community partners for their continued commitment to ensuring every student is present, supported, and engaged in their education.
