Pflugerville ISD has launched a District Optimization Process designed to ensure the district is using its resources effectively to provide the best possible educational experience for every student. The effort will be guided by Civic Solutions Group (CSG), a consulting firm that specializes in helping school districts plan for the future through community-driven processes.

District optimization is a proactive approach that many school systems across Texas and the nation are taking as they respond to shifting enrollment trends and evolving community needs. Like districts across the state, Pflugerville ISD has experienced enrollment challenges, and district leaders are taking a forward-thinking approach to address them. This work is part of the district’s larger vision to ensure that by 2029, every PfISD graduate leaves prepared for one of the 3E’s: Enrollment in higher education, Employment in the workforce, or Enlistment in military service.

“District optimization will help us make sure we are aligning our resources to support our students, teachers, families, and community well into the future,” Superintendent Dr. Quintin Shepherd said. “This is not about closing schools. This is about building a strong, sustainable future for every student.”

The District Optimization Process will provide a framework for considering potential changes to school boundaries, transfer policies, programming, or even school consolidations, if needed. District leaders emphasized that no campuses have been identified for consolidation and there is no predetermined outcome. This is the very beginning of the process.

CSG will design and facilitate a community-driven process that seeks to understand the values and priorities of PfISD students, families, and community members. This input will be central to developing priorities for district optimization and will help shape any recommendations made to the Board of Trustees.

The district will host community and campus meetings throughout the process, and will also provide online surveys to include those who may not be able to attend in person. More information on meeting dates, locations, and opportunities to participate will be shared in the coming weeks.

“This will not be a process done to our community, but with our community,” Shepherd said. “These are our children, not data points. At the same time, we cannot ignore the data. Together, we can shape a vibrant future for Pflugerville ISD where every child has access to a thriving, well-resourced school.”

Community members can learn more about the process by viewing the presentation delivered by CSG to the PfISD Board of Trustees during their September 18 meeting.
