Virtual Learning: Daily Schedules

  • The schedules below are examples. These schedules outline the expected block of time for each content/component.

Campuses and teachers will provide parents/guardians/students with specific schedules that include specific times when synchronous learning occurs. Campus/teacher schedules will be provided to students and families in a timely fashion so that students will be ready for the first day of school. If a teacher needs to make any adjustments to the schedule for synchronous learning, they will communicate this to students and families at least one week in advance.

While the elementary sample schedules do not include a specific time for recess, unstructured play is important for younger students.  Families are encouraged to provide daily unstructured playtime for elementary students in addition to these schedules. Additionally, students should take breaks as appropriate during asynchronous learning time.

Social-emotional learning (SEL) will be integrated throughout the virtual learning experience. Teachers may integrate SEL into their lessons or design a standalone SEL lesson. SEL lessons may be asynchronous or synchronous.

In addition to outlining asynchronous and synchronous instructional minutes, each daily schedule provides the following:

    1. Office Hours for Student Questions/Needs (50-60 minutes)
      1. Teachers will be available to respond live (using Zoom, phone, and/or real-time discussion board) to students during this time.
    2. Parent/Guardian Contact Time (45-60 minutes)
      1. Monday-Thursday, teachers will reserve daily time for parent/guardian contact and communicate availability to parents/guardians.  If parents/guardians are not available at this time, they can arrange an alternate time with their teacher. Fridays will be reserved for staff meeting time.
    3. Teacher Professional Learning Communities or PLCs (45 minutes):
      1. This is collaborative planning time for teachers in addition to teacher conference periods
    4. Teacher Lunch (30 minutes)

All PfISD middle school campuses, with one exception, are on a seven-period day schedule.  This sample schedule will meet their needs with minimal adjustments.  Park Crest Middle School is on an eight period day and will need to make additional adjustments to include the eighth period, which may include adjusting the learning time for each period to between 45 and 50 minutes.
