Principal Recommendation for Curriculum Review Teams

    (submitted by John O’Hare)

The PfISD Curriculum Team is looking for help!  With a focus on continuous improvement, we are looking to begin the process of reviewing and refining our district curriculum.

We are seeking teachers and/or instructional staff with:

      • proven academic success and experience
      • a variety of instructional strategies
      • at least two years of teaching experience in the given content area

We know our students need our teachers in the classroom every day, therefore we will conduct the curriculum review outside of the school day.  Teachers participating on our curriculum review teams will be compensated at a rate of $27 per hour.   All teachers participating on our curriculum review teams will receive training for the curriculum review and they will be compensated for their training time.  Participating teachers can expect some of the curriculum review to take place after school hours in the months of March, April, and May, and up to an additional 3 days of work during the summer.

Let Georgie know if you are interested.

    dismissal

    Dismissal

I am making the following changes to dismissal in order to increase instructional time and the efficiency of dismissal and pick-up.  Some changes will be made immediately and some changes will be made on January 30th.  Because of this, I put the changes in two different groups:

    Immediate Dismissal Changes/Reminders:

    • Dismissal for K – 5th will now be from 2:38 – 2:45. (Kinder should be moving out at 2:38.)
    • All classes should be out of their class by 2:45 when the bell rings. (Purple tickets will be given out between these times.)
    • EDP students should not arrive in the cafeteria before 2:40. EDP is not equipped to monitor students until this time.
    • Bus students need to be sent down at 2:38. Kim Tullos and Nikki Miller will meet them in the hall. (Our goal is to have a bell at 2:38 to begin dismissal procedure.)

    Changes Effective January 30th:

    • K – 4th will divide their current “car riders” into two groups: car riders and walk-ups.  Students whose parents walk up to get them are considered “walk-ups”; students who are called to cars are “car riders”.
    • All parents will be informed of this change. They are encouraged to select one or the other.  If they change, we will still give them their child but kindly remind them to do one or the other.
    • Grade level teachers will need to set up a procedure to divide car riders and pick-ups. They will also have to decide which teachers will monitor car riders and which will monitor pick-ups.  Staff members will be on duty and can help monitor students briefly if needed.
    • We will try this from 1/30 – 3/10. If it does not increase efficiency, then we will not continue to do it.

TEA launches social media campaign celebrating teachers

State Commissioner of Education Mike Morath has launched a new social media campaign that aims to share the success stories of Texas teachers. The #IAmTXEd campaign celebrates the stories of educators whose work is leading to greater student outcomes and achievements. The first #IAmTXEd stories have highlighted the work of educators in the Presidio, Duncanville, Lubbock and Northwest districts, reaching about 40,000 people.

    Who you gonna call?

Bryan police arrested five people on Wednesday on the grounds of the former Bowie Elementary School. The individuals, aged between 17 and 21, said they were there in an attempt to find ghosts. During a search of the building, police found a BB gun and a Ouija board. The school has a reputation for being haunted, and is listed on several paranormal websites.

District Copy Center Closure - (submitted by Tricia Gilbert)

The copy center will be shut down starting at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 12 through 12:00 p.m. Thursday, December 15, 2016.  The online submission software will be upgraded during this time.  This upgrade will simplify the ordering process for faculty and staff and streamline the production side to allow ever faster turn-around times.  We regret interrupting service during the school year, but the last week in December is a historically low volume week and we want to be up and ready before the beginning of January, one of our busiest months of the year.  We will be sending out email reminders to all PfISD staff to inform them of the interruption of service.   If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Tricia Gilbert at X-40258.
