Voters Approve Pflugerville ISD VATRE

November 8, 2023 - Voters in Pflugerville ISD approved the Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election (VATRE) on the November 7 ballot. With preliminary, unofficial results available from Travis County, approximately 62.87 percent of voters approved the VATRE.

"The Pflugerville community has once again demonstrated its commitment to public education, and we are immensely grateful," said Superintendent Dr. Doug Killian. "The passage of the VATRE represents a significant step towards recognizing and rewarding the hard work and dedication of our outstanding teachers and staff."

The passage of the VATRE allows the district to increase the M&O tax rate by seven cents, resulting in an additional $10.7 Million in operating budget funds for teacher and staff salaries, utilities, and instructional materials. Homeowners will still see a 15-cent decrease in their overall PfISD tax rate in this fiscal year, which is the lowest tax rate in 30 years.

If approved by the board on November 16,  the increase going forward will be reflected in their paychecks beginning in December. Additionally, teachers and staff will receive a one-time additional paycheck, covering the increased compensation retroactively from the beginning of the school year.

While approval of the VATRE is a significant win for the district, PfISD will continue to work with the community to advocate for school finance reform to ensure every school is appropriately funded by the State of Texas.
