Local choir students bound for solo/ensemble contest
Pflugerville and Weiss high school choir students have qualified for the 2021 UIL Texas State Solo-Ensemble Contest, taking place online May 22-31.
Five Pflugerville High School students qualified for the state solo and ensemble contest, having earned Division 1 ratings at a regional event. PHS students who qualified are:

Monica Muscato heads the PHS choir program.
Twenty Weiss choir students earned Division 1 ratings to advance to the state competition. They are:

LaTanya Bell heads the WHS choir program.
Willy Mason of Hendrickson High School and Dylan Le of Pflugerville High School were named Outstanding Performers at the 2019 state solo and ensemble event. Last year's event was cancelled.
PfISD middle school student selected to all-state choir
Westview Middle School student Soraya Morales has been named to the 2021 Texas Choral Directors Association all-state middle school choir.
TCDA on Saturday announced the members of its 2021 TCDA Virtual Middle School/Junior High All-State Choir.
Morales was previously among 80 Pflugerville ISD middle school students who qualified for a regional choir this year. She was one of only two PfISD students named first chair, honored as first chair alto for the 7th Grade Treble Region Choir in Region 26.
She is under the direction of Westview Choir Director Susan Anderson.
As part of the TCDA all-state middle school choir, Morales will perform two selected pieces of music for a virtual choir performance to be shown at the 2021 TCDA Convention in San Antonio on July 24. The choir will be led by Jacob Narverud, Emporia State University choral director, composer and founder of the Tallgrass Chamber Choir.
PfISD choir students qualify for TMEA All-State Choir
Our congratulations to the following PfISD choir students, for qualifying for TMEA All-State Choir.
Students who placed in the top five in their voice part at the Pre-Area level advanced to Area auditions on Jan. 16, from which selections for TMEA All-State Choir were picked.
All-State Mixed Choir
- Harlow Hurley, HHS, 11th Grade, Soprano 1
- Jason Polk, WHS, 12th Grade, Bass 2
All-State Treble Choir
- Trinity Chap, WHS, 11th Grade, Soprano 1
In October, 43 Pflugerville ISD high school students auditioned with 380 choir students in our region for the Texas Music Educators Association Region Choir. The process was completely virtual this year, with recorded auditions that were submitted to be judged.
