A trio of Pflugerville ISD seniors have been named National Merit Finalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
The PfISD students honored as National Merit Finalists are Dylan Le from Pflugerville High School and Hendrickson High School’s Avn Josh Manigsaca and Elena Swenson.
Each year the NMSC hosts the National Merit Scholarship Program, with students competing for scholarships that may pay for up to four years of higher education using the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test as the primary part of the program’s assessment.
These students were notified of their status as National Merit Semifinalists in September. Semifinalists must complete several other requirements as part of the National Merit Scholarship Program to advance to the Finalist standing.
Now that these students are Finalists, they await to see if they are awarded a National Merit Scholarship. These awards are chosen based on the candidates’ abilities, skills and accomplishments. School officials may also submit a recommendation on the student’s activities and leadership.
Approximately 15,000 students across the U.S. are named National Merit Semifinalists this year, and each year about 90% of Semifinalists attain Finalist status with half the Finalists winning a National Merit Scholarship at Merit Scholars.
