Happy 4 Day Weekend!

Posted by Zachary Kleypas on 10/8/2021

Greetings Panthers,

Happy Friday!

Reminder: No school on Monday, 10/11/21. Please take time to rest and relax after a busy first 9-weeks of school.

Testing Palooza on Wednesday, October 13th:

Wednesday will NOT be a normal scheduled day at PHS due to an exciting opportunity for students to take the PSAT/NMSQT, TSI, or participate in rotations based on their grade level.

ALL panthers will have something to do that day, but please know students will not visit each of their classes and lunch times will be altered. It is highly encouraged that students bring a sack lunch or each in the cafeteria. Seniors can go off campus, but due to the adjusted schedule, it may throw off their normal routines. Here are some more details about what each grade level will get to do on that day.

  • 9th graders – if in AVID or Geometry; PSAT 8/9. If in Algebra 2 will take PSAT/NMSQT.  All other 9th doing AVID rotations.
  • 10th & 11th Graders – all will take PSAT unless 11th opted for TSI
  • 12th Graders – TSI/ASVAB or Rotations through Howell.

NOTE: It is really important that students arrive at school BY 9:00am (everyday, but this day included). Since I monitor the front A hallway each day, I am able to observe our late arrivals. Since the PSAT and other tests are timed tests, arriving in time is going to be critically important.

We also recommend not scheduling doctors/dentist/appointments if possible.

Finally, check out this link to College Board for information on the PSAT: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/psat-nmsqt-psat-10/inside-the-test

Homecoming Champs & King & Queen:

We started our Friday last week with an awesome Parade through the halls that included our drumline, dance team, cheerleaders, football team and volleyball team. It was great to feel the positive energy and celebrate our students!

That evening nearly 800 students joined us in the stands to witness PHS beat the Leander Lions 78-24. The varsity volleyball team also got a big win against Weiss. To continue with the celebration, I’d like your help congratulating our 2021-22 PHS Homecoming King & Queen:

  • Mateo Gonzales and Alyssa Guerrero!

Congratulations to the PHS Tennis Team!

The tennis team qualified for the playoffs for the 4th year in a row this week.  They will face Anderson in the Bi-District round on Tuesday.  Be sure to congratulate them and wish them luck when you see them!

Congratulations to our Panther Pride Students:

Panther Pride is a program by which our faculty members recognize students who exhibit leadership and good-will within the classroom and the PHS community. These students are recognized as demonstrating sincere efforts towards school success.

While we are not able to honor our Panther Pride recipients with the traditional honorary breakfast, we can continue to acknowledge them with a certificate, Panther Pride Pin, and public acknowledgment. It is our honor to announce the most recent members of our Panther Pride.  Please join us in congratulating the following students:

Free & Reduced Meals Applications

Children need healthy and nutritious meals to learn and grow. Pflugerville ISD offers healthy meals every school day.

We REAAAALLLLY need your help by simply taking a moment to fill out the application for the free and reduced lunch program.

The % of students who typically qualify for free or reduced lunch at PHS is roughly 50-55%. This year, we currently only have 35ish% of students signed up. We realize this is most likely because lunches are free for all students.

However, if we don’t get more students to sign up this is going to tremendously negatively impact our campus!

Free and reduced lunch applications are linked to the following things for campuses:

  1. Title 1 status
  2. Federal funds
  3. Accountability ratings
  4. Accountability comparison groups

And much more!

PLLLLLEEEASSSSE find the link below and take just a few moments to fill it out, even if you think you may not qualify.

Check out this contest below and how you can help PHS win money for our school!

Students who have been accepted to the program in the past must reapply each school year to keep receiving the benefits.

Pflugerville ISD utilizes online free and reduced applications exclusively to determine eligibility for the 2021-2022 school year (July 1, 2021, through June 30, 2022). These online applications aim to reduce processing and notification times while reducing carbon footprint.

Free and reduced-price meal applications for the 2021-2022 school year will be available on July 1, 2021.
