PfISD volleyball teams sweep playoff spots

Nov. 18, 2020

With a victory in a tie-breaker match Tuesday night by Pflugerville High School, the Panthers secured a spot in the UIL Class 5A volleyball playoffs along with the other three PfISD high schools.

Hendrickson, Connally, Weiss and PHS are all headed to the state playoffs marking the second sport so far this school year in which PfISD grabbed all four spots available for the playoffs in District 18-5A. All four PfISD high schools qualified for the playoffs in team tennis earlier this fall.

The Hawks (16-3, 13-0) went undefeated in district play, holding off Weiss in a dramatic 5-set regular season finale on Saturday. Weiss (11-10, 9-5) finished third in district to secure its first-ever playoff spot in school history. This is just the third year for Weiss to participate in varsity sports.

Connally (14-7, 11-3) finished second in the district and will host McCallum on Friday at 6 p.m. in the bi-district round of the UIL playoffs, and PHS (9-13, 8-6) grabbed fourth place with its win over Bastrop in the tie-breaker.

Hendrickson heads to Lockhart for its bi-district matchup at 5:30 p.m. Thursday while Weiss welcomes Anderson at 6 p.m. and PHS hosts Ann Richards at 6:30.
