PfISD tennis teams sweep playoff spots, PHS faces Anderson

Updated October 8, 2021

All four Pflugerville ISD tennis teams are headed to the UIL Team Tennis playoffs for the second straight year, and three of them will host their first round matches.

With UIL certification completed, the brackets and playoff first round match-ups are set. Weiss, Hendrickson and Connally all host their opponent on Tuesday while Pflugerville High School heads to Austin Anderson. Action starts early with Weiss hosting LASA at 9 a.m. and Hendrickson welcoming Lockhart also at 9. PHS plays at Anderson at 1:30 p.m. and Connally hosts McCallum at 2.

Hendrickson won the UIL District 18-5A crown under second-year head coach Teri Saunders. Principal Daniel Garcia has praised Saunders for the recent success and growth of the program. Before her revival of the program, the Hawks struggled to field a team with enough players.

PfISD’s sweep of all four playoff spots for District 18-5A continues a streak of success for the district’s athletics teams. The district’s high schools combined to grab all four playoff spots last year in team tennis, volleyball and girls basketball.

District 18-5A is paired up with District 17 in the first round of the UIL Team Tennis State Championship bracket. You can view the full Class 5A bracket on the UIL’s website.
