Jam Packed Week at PCMS!

Posted by Zachary Kleypas on 11/1/2019

Greetings Pumas,

Happy Friday! This week was probably our busiest of the school year, yet! We celebrated Red Ribbon Week, had District Finals for Volleyball and Football, and SO much more! Check out some of the highlights below:

PCMS Fall Dance Recap:

Friday nights dance last week was a HUGE success! The PCMS student council, once again, transformed the cafeteria into a magical experience for our students. It was evident that students had fun, they had lots of sugar, and most importantly they made great memories with their friends.

Gold Medal Band:

Last week I shared some highlights from our amazing Choir program, and now I would like to share some great news about our Band! 12 students were recognized for the DISTRICT Band recently, with seven of those advancing to the prestigious REGION band! We are so proud of our kiddos and their amazing directors; Mr. Barnes and Ms. Pinner! #PCMSGoldMedal

Football Season:

This was an AWESOME season for Park Crest Middle School. I could not be more proud of our players and our four Coaches; Coach Wilson, Coach Elliot, Coach Gonzales, and Coach Prine. The amount of hours, the early morning practices while it was still dark out, the afternoon practice when it was scorching hot, and all the hours in between led these teams to an awesome season. Not to mention our teams finished out at top of the district:

  • 7th grade B Team: 2nd place
  • 7th grade A Team: 2nd place
  • 8th grade B Team: 4th place
  • 8th grade A Team: 2nd place

Volleyball Season:

The Volleyball season was just as remarkable! There were plenty of mornings when our dedicated athletes and their parents were dropping off as I was arriving. The teams have become known across the district as POWERHOUSES with talented players and equally as impressive sportsmanship. Of the four teams we came home with not one, not two, but three district championships!!! Congrats to all of our girls and to our four amazing coaches; Coach Hinojos, Coach Christian, Coach Phelps, and Coach Vecchio for a great season!

  • 7th grade B Team: 1st, District Champs!
  • 7th grade A Team: 2nd place
  • 8th grade B Team: 1st, District Champs!
  • 8th grade A Team: 1st, District Champs!

Basketball Season:

There is no rest for our coaches and our athletes in middle school athletics. We have already begun to have/prepare for basketball tryouts and the teams will be ready to compete in no time! Good luck to our players and I am looking forward to another great season. Our athletes remind us that every day is a great day to be a puma!

A Word from the Nurse – Scoliosis Testing:

A routine service provided at the middle school level is scoliosis screening. State mandated scoliosis screening will be held on November 11th for 8th grade boys and November 14th for 7th grade girls.

What to wear/bring for the exam:

  • All students must remove their shirt
  • Girls should wear a halter top/tube top, sports bra, or two-piece swim top under their shirt.

If, for religious reasons, you do not wish to have your child screened, you must submit an affidavit of religious exemption no later than November 8, 2019.

8th Grade Parents:

Our amazing 8th grade counselor, Mrs. Bonnet will be talking with students about high school dual credit classes in the early spring. If you would like more information in the meantime, ACC offers incredibly helpful seminar classes that are free for families. Below is a flyer with a link and a number for more information if you are interested:

Time Change:

It’s that time again. On Sunday, November 3, at 2 am, we'll turn back our clocks one hour, signaling the end of daylight saving time. The change shifts daylight back into the morning hours. Please be sure to make the switch so our kiddos are prepared for school on Monday. J

Voting Site:

In case you didn’t know, Park Crest is host to a voting site each and every year. Tuesday, 11/5/19 is voting day. So that you are aware, we utilize the end of the science hall as the voting location. We put up wall partitions to keep separation from voters and students. If you would like to swing by and vote, the process is simple! Please simply park along the street near the science hall doors (very end of the building near Pfennig. Then come on into those science hall doors. Everything at Park Crest will be business as usual (with the exception of one closed restroom in the science hall of course.

Most sincerely,

Zack Kleypas
