Some civic-minded Pflugerville ISD students brought home awards this year from the Speak Up! Speak Out! State Civics Fair.
Connally High School and Westview Middle School performed well at the state event hosted by the Strauss Institute for Civic Life at The University of Texas in February.
CHS took third place in the high school division for its “Guide to Score 2.0” by the team of Nick Ramirez, Gabby Haddad and Helen Barnwell.
Westview came away from the competition with an Excellence in Primary Research Award for its “Afterschool Action” presentation by the team of Vy Tran, Ivan Tran, Joseph Schwartz and Alan Vo.
CHS also earned a superlative award at the competition. The team of Lauren Casey, Monique Tran and Cassie Martin received the Excellence in Community Engagement Award for its presentation of “Paws Squad.”
The Speak Up! Speak Out! competition encourages students to solve problems facing their own communities.
