Book Fair this week

Our Book Fair is open all this week in the Cele Library! Parents are welcome to stop by during the school day, send students with money to purchase books, or stop by during Literacy Night this Wednesday, Sept. 25, for our extended evening hours from 6-8 p.m. You also can purchase online at this link. Our Librarian, Ms. Dominguez, also has advertised that parents can set up an e-wallet for students to make purchases and budgeting easier. Give the gift of literacy and find exciting new titles to engage your child in reading. You also support the Cele Library when you buy. Proceeds go to expanding our book budget for all students. Here is a link to our Book Fair Flyer

Parent Help with Student Safety

Parents, we could use your help with two safety issues that have risen to our attention here at school:

First – We have students who are walking from the building to the parking lot to meet a ride after school, and we are observing that it is not safe. Students and drivers are not always exercising awareness in our busy parking lot. Beginning immediately, students will need to wait at the sidewalk for a parent to drive up or walk up to meet them.

Second – We have students who text or call parents to pick them up from school for illness or other reasons without having reported this to a staff member. This not only creates confusion for parents and adults upon pick-up, but it also presents safety concerns if a student is ill and has not made us aware. Please remind your child his or her phone should remain off and out of sight during the school day and that communication home during the school day should happen in consultation with a staff member.

UIL Eligibility Loss this week

VERY IMPORTANT: If your child participates in a UIL event (sports teams, fine arts, and academic UIL competitions), he/she actually may LOSE eligibility to participate at the next three-week IPR (the six-weeks). That IPR ends on Thursday, Sept. 26. Please, please, please encourage your child to attend tutorials, check grades and turn in missing assignments, correct tests, and proactively study. We want all of our kiddos to be eligible to participate in the events they love, but we must follow the UIL “no pass, no play” rule without exception.

Literacy Night this Wednesday

Join us for the Annual CMS Literacy Night. This event is for the whole family! Pflugerville Public Library, Pflugerville Animal Shelter, and local authors will share their love for reading with our families, and our own Cele Book Fair will be open for this event. We will celebrate the gift of reading with pizza, literacy games, Scholastic Book Fair, and community partners supporting our CMS Literacy Department. And to make the night more exciting bring a book to share the gift of reading with others for a book swap. You won't want to miss this fantastic event! Mark your calendars for Sept. 25 from 6-8 p.m.

PTO Meeting in Think Tank this Wednesday

Our PTO meeting this month will start at 5:30 p.m., immediately following our Public Meeting, and immediately before the kick off of Literacy Night. Because of the Book Fair in the library, we will change locations to the Think Tank, which is near the café. See you then!

CAAC and Public Meeting Wednesday

Are you interested in learning more about the professional development plan at Cele? How about the accountability results? Intervention plans? Other important campus processes? If you answered yes to any of these questions then the CAAC would be a great committee for you to join. We are looking for parents, business representatives, and community members to join our team. If you are interested please simply email me at Ben.OConnor@pfisd.net. Our first meeting will be a public meeting Wednesday, Sept. 25, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. to review Cele’s most recent performance appraisal and our strategic plans for the coming year.

Cross Country

Congratulations to both teams for taking first place for the second time-in-a-row last week! The Colt runners get a break from competition this week to attend Literacy Night at Cele; then, Colt Cross Country travels to Kelly Lane Middle School the following Wednesday, Oct. 2 to compete for the District Championship! Mark your calendars! All Cele Athletic Schedules linked here

Monday our seventh grade will take on Kelly Lane Middle School at KLMS. On Tuesday, eighth grade will play KLMS here at home. Reminder: Tickets are $2 for students and $4 for parents/guests. All Cele Athletic Schedules linked here

This Thursday our 7th grade Lady Colts host Kelly Lane here at Cele, and the 8th grade team will travel to KLMS. Reminder: Tickets are $2 for students and $4 for parents/guests. All Cele Athletic Schedules linked here.

We’ll be accepting orders through Sept. 27 for our Cele Yard Signs. The form has the different options and they’re completely customizable so it’s an option for any and all students. Show your Cele spirit and support girls athletics. Click this link for ordering information.

Free and Reduced Price Lunch Applications

Did you know that at Cele roughly 40 percent of our kiddos qualify for free or reduced price lunches? Even if your child previously qualified, applications need to be resubmitted every year. Students have 30 days grandfathered at last year’s status, but it is very important to complete this application soon. Follow this link. Parents, if you are unsure as to whether or not you might qualify, feel free to call (512)-594-0430.

$500 School Supply Competition

This year, to encourage all families to apply, there is a competition! The campus with the largest percentage of applicants (regardless of qualification) wins $500 in school supplies. That would be awesome for our counselor and social worker to have on standby for our kiddos who need them. In order to complete the application please utilize this link.

PAGE Applications Due Wednesday

Pflugerville ISD parents of gifted learners are encouraged to apply to represent their campus feeder pattern as a Parent Adviser for Gifted Education (PAGE). PAGE’s will participate in district gifted advisory meetings; learn more about gifted education in Pflugerville ISD; share ideas to help continuously improve GT services districtwide. Interested parents should apply here. Applications are due by Sept. 25. Applicants will be contacted to serve on the committee by Sept. 30. The first meeting will be held on Monday, Oct. 28.

Skyward Access for Parents

Skyward is our new information system in PfISD, and students and parents will have access to grades, attendance, and other student information via the portal. If you have not received an email for your user name and password, send a message to ParentPortal@pfisd.net, and we will assist you. Please note, messages sent from Skyward currently cannot receive a reply. Instead, you will want to email teachers directly. For a list of email addresses for all Cele staff, you may visit the Cele Website at this link.

Bus Routes

To find your bus stop and pick up or drop off times, go to this link: Bus Routes

You will be able to enter your address and find the necessary information about your child’s bus route. The routes are current. If you live on one of the Cele Community’s many brand new streets, you may not see your bus stop. If you experience this problem, please call us at 512-594-0450 and we’ll work it out together.

While the Number 1 best option is still “family time at the breakfast table”, that is often unrealistic. Our Café provides a free breakfast for every student.  If breakfast at home doesn’t work for your family, please encourage your child to eat at school. We find that it is so much more difficult to learn when we are hungry. For information on menus, how to set up an online lunch account, and how to apply for reduced price or free lunch, visit www.pfisd.net
